What if everyone feared you?

SYNOPSIS: Rael Pointe has powers that others fear, powers that even cause others pain.  He has implants in his head that allow him to access computers.  He was rescued from the Hive and raised by Marion Mahata, a woman with powerful political connections.  Rael will soon have a purpose as he trains and eventually begins commanding his own team.  But what will Rael learn as his team of rogues takes on this latest mission?

MY THOUGHTS: I'm not sure if the first sections of this book are meant to be separate but short stories or if the stories are all part of the whole book.  I must say, the first bit seemed somewhat disjointed as a bit more character development and descriptions of the setting would have helped the early parts of the book.  But once I got settled into this world, wow, what a journey!  Mary Andrews has quite a few surprises in store for the reader as this is one sci fi book chock full of twists and turns.  This is definitely a pure sci fi book and I suspect that fans of shows such as Star Trek might enjoy this one.

Strange that somehow it

Strange that somehow it wasn't more explicit. I read one book where each part was based on an object but it was very clear to the reader from the book's structure and titles as well as the objects how the book was organized so it did not feel disjointed.

As...

As I wrote up my formal review of the book and really looked at the structure, I saw where it has various Parts so I think it is meant to be one book.  The problem was that it didn't give enough info on the characters and setting to draw me in right away and so it read a bit disjointed till everything started tying together.  It really was structured very oddly~ and considering I'm used to reading books that skip from character to character without the ties being readily apparent (Stephen King uses that style a lot), it was just odd.  Overall, I did enjoy the book though.
