Flooding in Fredericton

020.JPG

Well, my hometown is really getting a soaking!  Worst flood on record.  Families are being displaced down river.  Up river, the only thing keeping Fredericton from being one huge pond is the Mactaquac dam.  Up further, in Maine, there is a dam that is reported as unsteady.  If that goes, the Saint John river will be unhindered and Freddy will be very much under water!

Wow Melissa ....

that's a great pic

I've been following the news about the flooding .... hopefullly, things in Maine will hold tough and not compound Frederick's trouble

here in the Holland Marsh of southern Ontario, they were preparing us for a major flood of the region if spring brought lots of rain .... we had a lot of extra snow in March and they were worried that the Spring thaw on the lakes would happen too fast and end up as flooding here in the Marshes  .... thankfully, our thaw went rather well .. though north and east of us didn't fair as well

after the years of drought conditions it was lovely to have all that winter snow ... even now though, the canals surrounding the marshes are very high, so if we had huge rainfalls we could still be in trouble ... last flood here was in the 50's from Hurricane Hazel, they had to fly in huge pumps from the Netherlands to pump out all the water

I feel for you all .... stay dry!
