The Food of Love

Anyone who knows me will be able to tell you of my teensy tiny chocolate addiction. I find the combination of sugar, fats and caffeine all rolled up in a chocolately flavour to be near irresistible. But it’s also a very sexy food, don’t you think?

I know people often talk of oysters as a food of love, but I’m not a fan. Although I’d always thought fairy floss (cotton candy in the US) to be supremely sexy. Somhot chocolateething about the way it dissolves in the mouth like a sweet piece of cloud…

Or what about slivers of mango, or perfectly ripe strawberries?

Okay, I need to stop getting carried away about sugary/sweet foods and turn the discussion over to you - I want to find out what your ideal food of your love is.

So tell me, what’s the sexiest food on the planet?

Sex = decadence

Hi Rach. Now I didn't know that about you.... chocolate, huh?

Put me down for mango. Although I personally think any "decadent" food is sexy. Like the act itself - in it's truest, purest, most pleasurable form. Truly good sex is a decadent experience that invokes all the senses and takes us to a different plane much like decadent (expensive, rich, tactile, sensuous) food.

Well, my 2c anyway Embarassed

That's really good reasoning on why decadent food is sexy. Thanks for dropping by and sharing.

I'll go with CHOCOLATE

I'll go with CHOCOLATE too... any kind will do but milk choclate with caramlized almonds would be even betterCool

Key lime pie

Okay, it's hard to argue against chocolate. And I'm not really. 'Cause it's chocolate. <g>

But I do make a very decadent Key Lime Pie with a coconut cookie crust and topped (of course) with whipped cream. It's so creamy and sweet with just enough tart to make it interesting. Very sexy.

How can you go wrong

with chocolate?  By itself, or with/on something, like chocolate covered strawberries.  In bar or fondu form, it's truly hard to beat.

While we were dating, DH remembered a comment I'd made about how much I loved Australian chocolate, and found an online store where he purchased some for me, sending it to my office (where I worked for Aussies) on Valentine's Day, then again on my birthday.  My hero!  Wink

For me it's chocolate, chocolate covered strawberries, and whipped cream.

HAS TO BE CHOCOLATE ANYTHING!

I had a license plate once that read, Hand over the Chocolate and Nobody gets Hurt!

We just had a chocolate fountain going for my son's engagement party and we dipped, strawberries, bananas, graham crackers, marshmallows (for S'mores) and pretzels into the chocolate!  it was a big hit!

Rachel

The ideal food of love I heard everyone talk about it but I haven't thought very much about it til now.  I would have to agree with the majority and go with chocolate.  For me it would be Hersey Chocolate kisses only, unfortunately.  Definitely not oysters, especially raw.

With my various food allergies I'll just enjoy all the stories.

Nothing more relaxing than a good book and a cup of tea.

Alcohol as a food of love?

In my house alcohol counts as a food groupWink so I'm going for a long cool glass of champagne with a tickling of tiny bubbles and a nose of toasted croissants and caramel. Poured by my beloved of courseSmile.

Golly, Rachel, this topic is making me hungry!

Barb in NZ

Sexiest food on the planet is........

Strawberries dipped in dark chocolate & a good bottle of champagne.

Hmmm, chocolate?

Chocolate isn't really a major attraction for me. Sure I have days when I'd love a taste, or just to feel the texture of it melting on my tongue. I don't see oysters as a food of love, although I do enjoy them. Definitely love the idea of slivers of mango, especially lovingly hand fed to you by your beloved (given that your beloved hasn't just crawled out of an engine bay or something like that.)

But overall, I'm totally with Barb. A very good glass of wine, be it champagne or still, white or red, together with a delicious meal together, or even a picnic of tasty savoury morsels like room temperature brie on crackers, or chicken and cognac pate served on slices of fresh crusty Frech bread, or... Oh geez, Rachel. It's 9:50 am and I've had breakfast and now you've got me hungry again!

Honey and I are diabetics, so we have had to place limitations on our chocolate intake.

Rachel, you might disappointed in Hershey's kisses.  I love them, but when I brought some to France for my friends to taste, they all gave it "thumbs down".  I guess it's because the French have very strict laws about chocolate, so they are purists.

I like an occasional piece of dark chocolate, particularly with pecans (so much sweeter than walnuts).  But I've never particularly craved chocolate.  (Though Charlene's license plate had me lol and her party idea was brilliant!)

But when my husband and I first met we'd drive up to Sonoma (California) and the wine country and we'd stop at a bakery and pick up sourdough bread, fresh and piping hot from the oven, and some of their Sonoma Jack cheese and a freezing cold bottle of Zinfandel or Riesling--though now I'd probably choose a rich, red wine--and we'd have a picnic under a shade tree.

Combine that with the sweetest of kisses and we were in heaven.  Good memories!

Sexy foods

I don't have much to add to the list that hasn't already been listed.  I will say that, even though I find them completely repulsive, I read an article that said that oysters are rich in zinc, which plays a critical role in the arousal process.  So, oysters may actually deserve their reputation as an aphrodesiac.  I know that things that are phallic-like are often considered aphrodesiacs, too, though I question that.  (Speaking of which, has anyone else ever heard of a geoduck clam -- pronounced gooeyduck?  Check them out on Youtube or Google images some time, and you'll see what brought them to mind.)

Rachel, if you're interested in trying key lime pie (yum!), you should be aware that there are differences between the smaller, yellowish key limes (grown in the Florida keys) and standard, larger, green limes, and the differences supposedly contribute to the flavor of key lime pie.  So, if you want an authentic experience and can't find the somewhat-elusive key limes where you live, you might want to purchase a bottle of key lime juice, which is available over the internet.

JV and limes

JV, thanks for the tip on the limes! You know, it just never occured to me that the 'key' referred to the type of lime. Rachel bangs head on desk. And now you've pointed that out, I think I might have trouble getting them in Australia. But I'll look into it, and also look into the juice. Failing that, I love regular limes, so I'll look for a regular lime tart recipe.

Good to know!

On Hershey's Kisses

I honestly LOVE chocolate, but Hershey's Kisses are way down on my list of faves.  The chocolate in them makes me cough.  Don't know what's in them that makes me do it, but even if they didn't, I'm not a huge fan.  What's funny is that the Hershey's chocolate BAR doesn't bother me much at all!

Strange, I know, but I'm aware of what a freak I am.  LOL!

April
