I'm looking forward to this one. I agree, I'm not a NASCAR fan at all but I've read a few of the NASCAR books and have enjoyed them quite a bit.
NASCAR and romance

The thing I find is that you get caught up in the romance between the characters, and the fact that there's this big consuming and dramatic race stuff happening in the background just adds to the tension of it all. To be honest, I can't see that I'd ever be NASCAR (or any sports) fan, too many good books to be read to spend time watching cars go round a track. But that doesn't mean that that setting can't be really appealing and dramatic for a story. A bit like Susan Elizabeth Phillips and her football worlds.
