Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie

book coverBook blurb: High school physics teacher Lucy Savage is finally getting rid of Bradley-and his hideous green recliner. In fact, her front lawn is littered with her cheating ex-husband's belongings. Because despite standing her up in divorce court, Bradley is out of her life for good. Or so she thinks.

When her sister takes her to lunch to celebrate Lucy's single status, all their talk of a no-good louse named Bradley catches the attention of a cop-who wants to arrest the very same Bradley for embezzlement. And Officer Zach Warren figures the lovely Lucy can lead him straight to his target.

When someone shoots at Lucy and then blows up her car, Zach insists she needs twenty-four-hour protection. What does he think her three dogs and an attack cat are for? Still, he insists on moving right in to Lucy's house...

Now there's danger lurking outside and in her own kitchen, bathroom-and bedroom. Or maybe Zach, who looks like a bad boy with that shaggy dark hair and black leather jacket, is really one of the good guys, and just what Lucy needs.

My take: I liked her second novel, though Crusie's Bet Me is still my favorite of hers so far. Kate likes everything to be logical. Zach relies on instinct. So when Zach tries to convince Lucy that someone is trying to kill her, she dismisses the idea. He knows Lucy is the key to him catching Bradley: he can feel it. Lucy is convinced her ex-husband is not a threat and is sure that Zach is over-protective. Even though Zack has forbidden her to leave the house, he hasn't even bother to call to let her know what is going on. Lucy thinks nothing of leaving for a little run...

Lucy's hair misfortune is hilarious; her dog's dead-dog joke is precious. Jennifer Crusie's characters are zany and funny: Lucy's neighbour's attack cat, her nosy neighbour, Zack's well-meaning but interfering partner, Anthony, whom I think deserves his own story.

Now I'm off to find Crusie's third book so I can read that one too.

I am currently reading this

I am currently on page 70.  This book is very good so far.  I love the characters.  And yes, even this quickly I appreciate some of the points you've brought up like the dog's dead dog joke and her hair incidents.  I'm looking forward to reaching the end of the book.

Thanks Kel (Scoobie). I am

Thanks Kel (Scoobie). I am sure you will enjoy it too. Have you read any other of Jennifer Crusie's novels? If so, which is your favorite?

I Love Jennifer Crusie...

and I have, to date, all but one of her really old and HTF books.
My favourite category romances (and it's really hard to pick just one!) is actually a tie between Getting Rid of Bradley and Charlie All Night.  As for a full-length novel, I'd have to go with Tell Me Lies; it was my first JC book.
Of course I may just have to do a major re-read to make sure!

I too own all this womens

I too own all this womens books, except for her Candlelight romances.

My very favorite, even though i've loved many of her books...is Manhunting...it's my first read of hers and the one that spured me to collect all her books, and sticks in my mind the most.

I hauled it out of my keepers yesterday and plan on re-reading it soon.

I might have to get my hands on more

Getting Rid of Bradley is my first book by Jennifer Crusie.  By the sound of some of the responses, I think I might try to get my hands on Manhunting, too.  So far, I'm enjoying the book and her style a lot.

Oh you'll love Manhunting

Oh you'll love Manhunting scoobie...it's sooo much fun...and was recently re-released here in pb incase you didn't know that. Innocent

Manhunting...

I have this one somewhere . . .

I actually discovered JC in the audio section of the library.  Talk  about a great find!  Bad part was there were only 2 of her books available there - Welcome to Temptation and the follow-up Faking It.  Loved both.  Bought I think just about everything else (including WTT & FI).  You can never have enough of a good thing Smile

Everyone can afford to give away a smile!

DFW Plus - Come see what we are reading!

Just finished

Just finished Crazy For You the other day and it was hilarious. Has to up there with my favorites of Manhunting, Charlie All Night, and then Getting Rid of Bradley.

JC

Kalyko - I loved Charlie All Night, too! My favorite part is when they are arguing over music and they don't realize they are "On Air" LOL. I haven't read Tell Me Lies, I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

Kathy - Isn't it interesting how your first read of hers is still you favorite? My first was Bet Me and it's still my favorite (so far). Her characters are just so funny and memorable.

Kel - Did you get this book finished? I'll have to go check out your blog later to see how you liked it.

All - Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have several of JC's books I have to go look up

Oooh Kathy...

...Manhunting!  I completely forgot that one... and man oh man is it ever funny!
Just reading through the lists is getting me all wound up ~ I've been seriously neglecting JC...

And what's worse is that I have Agnes and the Hitman, written with Bob Mayer, on my TBR shelves... and have for a long while now.  I even bought it in in HC!  Pretty much the only other book that I did that with was Don't Look Down!

I love JC's stories.

My favorite book so far is also my first read of her's--Anyone But You. I just thought it was hilarious. I, like many of you, went on a search for her other books. And I'm never disappointed. She's definitely who I pick up when I need a laugh.

KalyKo--Don't Look Down started a little slow for me. Maybe it was just getting use to their writing chemistry but it turned out to be a good book. And when Agnes and the Hitman came out, I had to have it. It was great! Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

After all the rave reviews

After all the rave reviews here for JC...i couldn't resist digging Manhunting out of my keepers to re-read. Haven't gotten to it yet...but i soon will.

Anyone But You was another really fun quick read...maybe i'll have to pull that one out next.
