The Glass Castle

I have never come across such a stirring balance of horrific yet endearing memories woven together like this. This memoir is absolutely unforgettable. To think Walls was able to so eloquently present her poverty-stricken childhood in a way that is so modest and unapologetic is unthinkable. The only thing I can compare this to would be to watch a person stand up on a stage in front of hundreds of people and shed each layer of clothing until they were completely naked. As Walls revealed the truth of her childhood, I felt so intimately aware of her journey that I almost felt like I learned too much. At times, I felt as though I was reading a secret diary I came across—I knew I shouldn’t be reading it yet I just could not bring myself to stop. I don’t think many people would be able to pick this book up, read the first couple of pages and stop. It is just too captivating to put down! I demolished this book in a couple of days, and I’m sure you will too.
