Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner

This was actually a re-read for me. I read it back some four or five years ago when I was looking for some exciting new chick lit novels to tide me over between Melissa Senate novels. Cruising around Amazon, I came across somebody's list of their favorite chick lit novels and since they had Melissa's novels listed as well as this one, Jen Weiners first, I thought I'd give it a shot. I've been a Weiner fan ever since. (and it's pronounced "winer" not "weener" so no innuendos, please...well, unless it's a really GOOD innuendo. hehehe)

Anyway, the reason I decided to re-read this novel was because her newest release, Certain Girls is the sequel to Good in Bed. Since it had been so long since I'd rad GIB, I thought a refresher was in order. And I'm glad I did because honestly, it was like getting reaquainted with an old friend.

Good In Bed gives us a peak into the life of Candace "Cannie" Shapiro, a "larger woman" who has just broken up with her boyfriend of four years only to have him begin writing a monthly column for a national publication, Moxie (think Cosmopolitan) in which he paints a picture of what it was like to love a "larger woman."

From there the novel takes us on a journy through what happens next--pregancy, new friendships, getting over the ex, finding good fortune, facing the depths of despair and finally figuring out what life is all about. A lot of aspects of this story are fantastical--she just so happens to stumble into a friendship with a Hollywood starlet--but just as much is also really down to earth "I've been there and can identfiy" that it rounds out quite nicely.

It's a fun read with heavy subject matter woven beautifully into a memorable story. I can't wait to start reading Certain Girls and finding out what happened after Good in Bed ended.

Good in Bed

I remember reading this awhile ago and really liking it. Definely have to think about getting Certain Girls(hear the TBR pile protesting now)

TBR

LOL Yeah, mine pouts at me everytime a new shipment arrives. But what's a gal to do? There's so many books and so little time. I'll hate myself if I DON'T get all the books I want to read. Eventually, I'll retire (in like 50 years...but...) and I'll get to read all the time. And I'll have all those lovely books just waiting for me to pick them up. hehehehehehe
