The Guilty by Jason Pinter

Our favorite New York Gazette ace reporter Henry Parker is back for more life-altering danger in the sequel to the action-packed The Mark by Jason Pinter.

The Guilty is an adrenaline rush compressed into the pages of a paperback book. From the spectacular and shocking first chapter, the story throbs with an emotional intensity that wasn’t as apparent in the first book. Pinter masterfully mixes modern obsessions with crafting celebrity with the ultimate “yellow journalism” legend—Billy the Kid. It’s a fascinating and gripping read, one that kept me reading at work, in bed, on the bus and while standing up in a subway car. I loved that Amanda was fleshed out into a character with real depth; it was gratifying to see the development from the first book, because she had so much potential. I thought the exposition of The Boy was a little too quick off the mark (har har), and subsequently the unraveling of his story was a bit uneven. That being said, the overall pacing was fantastic, and I was taken through plot twists and turns that were anything but predictable.

A must-read for 2008!
