This book came out February 26, and I've been waiting to read it. Finally did. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed.
On a side note - I've never read a Danielle Steel novel. Sorry to her fans - I know she's got millions, considering how popular she is. But... her books are just not for me. [It's probably the old ones - but the story lines and characters, are the epitome of TSTL and full of characters I wouldn't mind seeing being killed slowly. - Danielle Steel book movies are on the We channel right now... which prompted that. ... I need to change the channel.)
People say "amazon reviews are useless" - but I don't think that's true. The "official" reviews gave it a 5/5. Amazon reviewers gave it 3-4 stars, which I'd agree with (though 4 is generous.)
This is an anthology, and the premise of the story is that three men are having a hard time making ends meet in the sorry Michigan economy. In order to stay afloat, they start their own construction company, called Loose Screws. During the colder months, it's a front for a prostitution business. Thad, Nash, and Benny are gigolos.
"Coming In First" has Lissa and Thad. Lissa is tired of bad boys who are no good, so she goes off to find herself a good guy. Only, Lissa is a bad girl. Actually, she's more of an idiot. She sees one guy, decides he's a good, and goes after him full tilt. In fact, she has sex with him immediately after meeting him. Not the best way to go the lasting relationship route. Of course, it works out happily. After all, this is fiction. One "saving grace" - Thad gives up his job as a gigolo.
"Not A Second Too Late". Genevieve has been trying to meet her parent's expectations her entire life. Right before her wedding, she decides she can't take it, and goes off to find another "relationship." She pays Nash 10K to act as her boyfriend for two weeks. Little does she know, Nash "came from the world she did" - his parents are extremely wealthy, but he left that life behind because of how petty "those people" are. Maybe it was the length, but I found it lacking. The other characters weren't developed, and they were just too flat.
"Third Time's A Charm". Holly has had some problems with her job. She takes some time off, and her cousin arranges for her to ... well screw away her problems with Benny. The two of them are set up by their friends, not knowing their ulterior motives. Holly is a therapist, and Benny need therapy. There's a slight snafu, but of course things work out in the end. This story had some serious issues, that were address in a way.
Altogether, this was an ok read. I'm glad I read it to satisfy my curiousity... but I'm ok with returning this book. :-X

Did you borrow it from the
Did you borrow it from the library or a friend? Otherwise how do you read a book and then return it?

Ack
Lorie,
I need to stop blogging at 1 am - which is the time now - yes, I borrowed the book. I've corrected that - I get pretty much all my books from the library first, before buying them. I don't think I've mentioned that in a while.
The only books I buy directly, really, are books by 1-2 authors, and all the harlequin books I have, because my libraries don't usually get them. I unfortunately, don't have the budget to buy all the books I'd like to read.
