Happy 60th Harlequin~~A Birthday Present for All of You!!

I WAXED MY LEGS FOR THIS.jpg

Happy Birthday, Harlequin!!  Last year, Mills & Boon turned 100, this year, Harlequin turns 60!  I know the company is planning a year of fun to celebrate.  Well, I wanted to take part, but couldn't decided what to do.  I mean, what sort of present can you send to a publishing house??  So, I've decided to give gifts to you all instead.  Wink

How?  (Please read carefully...and holler if you have questions!)

In the month of January, send me a self-addressed, stamped envelope (something big enough to hold a book...you can take a book along with you to the post office and have them figure out about how much postage you'll need) to Holly Jacobs, PO Box 11102, Erie, PA  16514-1102.  Include a note with the name of my backlist HARLEQUIN or SILHOUETTE book you'd like and your email address (in case I run out of that title and want to check on a second choice) and I'll send you a free book.  Yep Free.  You pay the postage, I'll supply the book!

You can find a list of my at http://www.hollyjacobs.com/bookshelf.html
There are blurbs for each.

One Book per person, please!

The backlist books are from '07-'01 books.  Last year's books are still available here on eHarlequin, so those are easy to find and aren't on the give-away list.

I know that I'm out of I Waxed My Legs for This? and I think there's only maybe one or two copies of Do You Hear What I Hear? so those ones are iffy choices.

I will post here if I run out of books, and if I do, the give-away is over! Sorry.  Otherwise, I'll honor requests throughout January and the give-away ends in February.

That's it, I think!  This is just my way of saying Happy Birthday, Harlequin...and thank you to all of you who have brightened so many of my days here at eHarlequin!  I know I frequently come off as a Pollyanna, but seriously, I'm so very happy to be writing for Harlequin, and I'm so very lucky to get to hang out with all of you!

Holly

PS Here are a few of the covers...you can find the complete list of Harlequin and Silhouette books at http://www.hollyjacobs.com/bookshelf.html

That's a generous offer

but I don't think I can take advantage of it.  I do have three lucky finds from a used book store on your backlist books. I own all the Duets.  I didn't realize you started to write for Silhouette Romance or I would have made a point to seek those books out. Only certain stores carried that line and as a result I didn't buy many of them. I never realized that you wrote for Flipside either. When Flipside started I was so mad at Harlequin because they had hooked me with Love and Laughter and then Duets and cancelled both lines that I vowed I wouldn't buy any Flipsides. I never did buy one new but read some from the library after the line had been cancelled and then bought a few used ones. I guess I contributed to that line's demise. I did buy the other two lines new if I managed to find them at the store. Again not all the stores carried the lines. Now I shop here and my only excuse for not getting a book that I want is that I can't always afford all that I'd like to get. I can't possibly read all the ones I'd like to get either so it works out.

Kaelee

Kaelee,

Thanks for backlisting my books...that's a huge compliment!  And, if you want to try the Flipsides, then I know I have the two I wrote for them, do feel free to send me a SASE for one.  I was so sad when Duets folded.  Loved writing them.  But since I've written for a lot of lines, I will confess, I've loved writing for each for different reasons.

When I do workshops, one of the things people ask is if I have to change my "voice" for each line.  And my answer is no.  I've had friends assure me that I sound like "Holly" no matter what line I'm writing for.  But the tone of the books do change.  Duets were just fun.  I ran amok.  LOL  Although the Silhouettes always had a sense of reality to them, there was also a sort of fairytale quality.  Flipsides were a bit more....urban, maybe?  I'm not sure how to describe it, because they certainly weren't edgy, but they had a finer point on the humor than Duets did.  My Everlasting and Supers are much more emotional.  My Americans...well, I think of those as my next-door-neighbor books.  I hope readers walk away feeling as if the characters might just drop in for coffee someday! LOL  Oh, and my one Signature was like such a treat.  It was the last month for the line, and no one could find it (that's a theme for a lot of my books...last books of a line...that's why Susan Gable calls me Holly The Line Slayer), was just a joy to write.

The Silhouettes were all loosely tied...set here in Erie on Perry Square.  One of the secondary characters, Pearly Gates, got her own fan mail, and I still get requests that she makes a cameo.  (And for those who've asked, I'm trying to work her into an upcoming book! <g>)

Anyway, most of the time when I mail out books, it's under $2, but do check with your post office.

My dear Canadians!

My Dear Canadians,

I really do appreciate your support...and although I don't speak for Harlequin, I know everyone at the company, and here at eHarlequin appreciates you, too.  (Hm...that sounds as if I am indeed speaking for them...so let's be clear, I'm not...but I'm pretty sure I'm right!  LOL) So I do want to include you in the celebration.  Private email me at Holly@HollysBooks.com, and we'll work it out.

You know, I'm only two hours from the Canadian border.  I love Canada.  I sent my characters in one book to Southampton, Ontario...we used to summer there.  The drive up is amazingly beautiful!  And I'm with you...I'd get frustrated if things excluded me, too!

Thanks, Spgirls and Donna!

Wow what a great gift.

What a wonderful way to celebrate 60 years of Harlequin.

I'll be sending you a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with a note of the books I'm interested in.

Thank you for the wonderful offer.  The Perry Square books were one of the first books I read when I started reading Harlequin.  I thoroughly enjoyed them.

Nothing more relaxing than a good book and a cup of tea.

Lucky for me I already own I Waxed My Legs For This and Do You Hear What I Hear (which is a special book to me as my daughter is hearing impaired - she is basically deaf in her right hear and needs a hearing aid to hear out of her left ear)  I know I can find a book of yours I must have.  Look for envelope soon and thanks for this generous offer.  You are so nice to us!

What a wonderful way to start 2009. We can all add at least one book to our challenge count courtesy of Holly. Thanks for your generosity! I have read all your Duets and Flipside, but I can't wait to check out your backlist. Thank you, thank you, Thank you!Cool

Where's the Cake??!!

So, what kind of cake do we have for Harlequin???  Since it's mainly us girls...I suggest chocolate!  LOL

Hey, a note to everyone sending me envelopes.  I'm going to guess that you'll be addressing them with your real names...make sure you add a note with your Screen Name.  I some of you use different names here than in real life!  LOL

Patsy, No, I'm not planning more Perry Square, although I do love the Square.  (The real one in Erie just got a major revamp!!)  But I am trying to work a cameo appearance for Pearly Gates into an upcoming book.  She gets requests!

EllenToo, LOL  I'm hoping there aren't so many requests that I'd have to make the drive...driving along the shores of Lake Erie in the winter can be iffy.  But in the summer, it is a beautiful drive!

BookBuff, Oh, how cool my Perry Squares were some of your first!  Thanks for sticking with me all these years!

Christa, I'm glad you like the idea!!  On a selfish note, I get to clear out my book closet a bit!!

Tammy, So, your '09 is the year of the cat??  LOL  And thanks.  I'm so glad that Do You Hear What I Hear? worked for you.  I'm so glad your daughter has you.

Dee, Thanks!  I'm so glad you enjoyed my Duets and the two Flipsides.  Even though I'm not writing straight up comedy these days, I love that I get to add so much humor to my Americans.  I was a bit nervous when I sent in the proposals for the trilogy.  I mean, I wasn't sure they were going to buy an Accidental Arsonist heroine for Once Upon a Valentine's.  But thankfully, they did.  And then I sweated bullets waiting for my editor to read the finished book.  There was a huge feeling of relief when she assured me she loved Carly.  Have I mentioned lately that I love my editor??  LOL

I'm so glad my birthday gift is going over so well!  I will shout here when I run out of backlist, but until I do, keep sending the SASE's!

Postage is cheaper in the USA so don't trek to Canada to mail anything. I'm in a grumpy mood because Canada Post did a couple of nasty things to me recently. I don't even get to see my mailman in shorts for the next little while either although he kept wearing them long after I thought the weather was too cold for shorts. LOL, I have to get my visuals someplace else for a while.

My mom worked for the Post Office and I think that is why all my recent trouble with them bothers me so much. I do my mailing from a 7/11 sub Post Office and they are great. I just ran into a lot of problems in the past few months that totally frustrated me as I couldn't do anything about them.

Here's the cake. . .

A double chocolate, chocolate chip with chocolate icing. . .  triple layer, with chocolate filling.  Now if that isn't enough chocolate, then I don't know what is.  Oh, and a huge crock of hot chocolate to go with it.  Laughing  And for any of you who have allergies, this is the non-allergenic kind that everyone can eat.  Smile

Now I have to go put on a real pot of hot chocolate.  I heard noise outside a minute ago, and when I went to look, my ds, ddil, and two dgrd's are all outside blowing and shovelling out our driveway.  Well, they were.  Now the two girls are in here, red cheeked and frozen fingered, wanting to know if they can paint.  I got some new glitter glue, so maybe that will satisfy them when I tell them they can't paint.

Thank you so much Holly-Hall, for this wonderful gesture.  Your mom should have named you Donna -- in 62 years I've never been called anything else, well, except my dh calls me "Sunshine" --  Sealed

I've never had good luck with Canada Post.  They've either lost or damaged 3 out of every 4 parcels I've ever mailed.  Now I don't put anything in the mail unless there's absolutely no other way to get it to it's destination.

Better go put on the chocolate. . .Smile

I know the US does, for things like submitting to HH or M&B.  That could work.  You just buy them instead of regular stamps, and then it's easy to send back.  Just a thought.

I'm very impatiently waiting for the challenge coupon to come out.  I was going to order my stuff on Fri. but it was just enough over the limit without the coupon that I decided to wait.  I guess I can't really complain.  Poor Katherine and the techies.  I wouldn't wish to be in their shoes at this time of the year for anything.

Monday

Okay, those of you who hang out with me on other boards know that I love Mondays!  This one is especially lovely because kids go back to school!!  So, happy Monday!

Hope, Thanks.  I'll make sure I drop by the PO Box at the end of the week to get the SASE's!

Donna, Sorry about the overdone meal.  I made a pork roast last week that tasted delicious, but dripped a lot and kicked up a bunch of smoke...maybe it smoked itself and that's why it was so good!  LOL  But yes, asking for mac and cheese was...well, so kid-like!  LOL  I'm glad it worked the second time around!  It's just a nice way to see what others are up to on your profile when you log-in.

Christa, Nice suggestion...I had no idea what to suggest.

Patsy, Sorry, I don't.  I was up going through the boxes yesterday and didn't see any of DYH's.  And no I Waxed My Legs, or Ready, Willing and Abels?

Jillyann, I'm glad you like the idea!

Hope you all have a lovely day!!

Holly
