Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July to all my US readers!  (And belated Canada Day greetings to to my friends up north!)

I'm planning a backyard picnic- grilled burgers and fries, watermelon and S'mores- with my family. Then my dh and ds bought a boatload of little fireworks- not then big blasters but the small ground, sparkling sort. Fingers crossed they don't set the yard on fire!

How are you spending the holiday?

Cheers!

Hi Beth!

We had a relatively quiet day. We visited mom at the hospital, then we went to the big Fourth celebration in the city park. It's always fun (and good food!). We saw WALL*E (Great movie!!) and then I went back to see mom last night (but she was sleeping).  No fireworks -- got rained out.  Didn't stop the neighbors, though...UGH -- way too late for that, like 11pm.

Did your yard survive intact?

The rest of our weekend looks rainy and blah.  Hopefully, that'll mean writing time for me! :-)  Days like that, DH is mostly content to watch TV, and DD calls a friend. Otherwise, we run around like crazy.

Fun Fourth!

Hi Jodie-

Yep, the yard survived!  We had a threat of rain, but it all stayed north of us. I went out for just a minute to see the carnage of burned out tanks (the fireworks kind) on our driveway, some still smoldering. But the mosquitoes were out in force so I didn't linger. Neighbors were shooting a few sky rockets so I saw those.

Earlier we roasted marshmallows over our grill and made s'mores.  The chocolate got melty while waiting so the hot marshmallow got it even messier.  Mmm...talk about a fun, messy treat!  I had melted chocolate dripping everywhere! (Gave me some ideas for a fun love scene for an upcoming book though... Wink.)
