Happy Halloween !

Happy Day Before Halloween, folks! It's time to prepare for all the spooky goings-on, and get your paranormal priorities in order. You do have some?Innocent

Soon the Underworld will open and the creepies will spill out en masse, seeking not only blood, but . . . candy! Going off their high-protein diets in favor of sweeter fare.

Which then brings us to the history of trick-or-treating.

Supposedly the Celts (originally from Ireland) left gifts and treats in front of their homes to appease the spookies crawling up from the earth's underbelly, and distract them from wreaking havoc upon local families. A treat to ward off a trick.

Funny what a little sugar can do, eh? And isn't interesting to note how this actually seemed to work on those spookies, thus propelling forward a tradition lasting until today? <!--break-->

It's a fun tradition, admittedly. Who didn't like dressing up and carrying around a fillable bag?

One year, given the fun and tradition of appeasing all the little Ninjas, vampires, butterflies, and brides, while doing an experiment to attempt to save parents some dental cha-ching, I gave out books as treats. What a concept! Promoting reading, and save our youth from all that future tooth decay, all at once. Ha ! Parents loved this idea. The kids, not so much.

Again, funny what a little sugar can do.

So, this Halloween, some of us who know a thing or two about the aftereffects of all that sugar, (and can no longer masquerade as a pint-sized Storm Trooper, darn it) can choose to indulge the adult way. Or at least level the playing field. We can choose to burn off a few calories by reading books that send our heart rates soaring. Yipee.

Surely the quick rise of blood pressure that ensues as we mentally chase a werewolf through a deserted park, will negate a mini Milky-Way? And following a muscled Were's race toward a woman who has been newly-bitten by a monster, might burn off a bag of M&Ms, vicariously? Don't you think there's some sort of cosmic justice in that? Well, don't you?

Candy is dandy, but give me a luscious werewolf tale any day. (Team Jacob?) Not just any werewolf, but a hot-blooded alpha who knows how to make a woman purr in delight, even on a dark and stormy night. And even on a night like October 31, when the earth's crust thins enough to allow for an opening to the Underworld, setting all those creepies free.

Since I write paranormal romance, I read a lot of it. And I have my book picked out and ready. Dark, yummy, paranormal Nocturne fare. It just doesn't get much better than that. So.... Saturday night, my tiara will be on my head and gleaming, so that I can dish out sticky treats to neighborhood boys and ghouls, in between chapters . . . just in case.

Cheers- Wink

Halloween

Happy Halloween to you. I love Halloween and even though I am not doing anything I look forward to it every year. My grandkids will stop by in their costumes and I always give them something other than candy. They get enough of that from everyone else. I'm like you and I will be curled up with my book tonight, maybe watching something creepy on tv too.

A delightful Hallowe'en

I spent a lovely evening wandering through a neighborhood with a bunch of kids, including a Harry Potter, a genie, a Moaning Myrtle, a mummy whose wrappings threatened to unwind, a ninja, a ninja turtle, a ghoul in a really ghastly mask, and a baby in a skeleton suit. Also went through a homemade haunted house with strobe lights and ghostly streamers. Fun!

Ah, but if you let yourself

Ah, but if you let yourself get too distracted by the werewolf, the trick-or-treaters will retaliate, and recall just what they imply with their chant.  Far better to enjoy his company come November, when he can warm you up on a cold winter's night . . .

I love the idea of burning

I love the idea of burning off calories by reading something steamy :P
