Heart of Stone

Five powerful races - one mortal go-between. Vampires aren't the only creatures of the night....

I had another book set aside to read when I finished Heart of Stone, but nothing will do now but to follow up with House of Cards, the sequel for which I just couldn't help reading an excerpt online in our bookstore, yup, I'm hooked! What a fantastic world these characters inhabit, and I love the way that Catie has mingled all the different lore of the old races to make them all relate in such a fresh way in this new world of hers in the first book of this wonderful trilogy. I wish there were more than just the three books in store, but at least she's mentioned on the LUNA boards that the characters will be returning as supporting players in future books. I'm entirely grateful, and can't wait to get into the office where I know the next story is waiting for me to pick up from where I left off. This book had me turning the pages, worrying about Grit's safety, wondering about her deals with the various *bad-buys*, thinking that her relationship with Alban was doomed, holding my breath during the many action-packed scenes, and thrilling when she verbally sparred and bested some of the nastier villains I've read in a while....what a roller coaster ride!

RE: HEART OF STONE by CE Murphy

Jayne, I won a contest, held by C.E. in which the prize was a personally autographed copy of House of Cards sent to me via Post from C.E. in Ireland! It's a gr8 book about Grit and Alban and the Old Races (but in the House of Cards Luna there are six Old Races) that take place in NYC's underground.  Margrit is one tough cookie!  Normally, I am not a reader of urban romance/paranormal, but after beginning C.E.'s House of Cards, I'm now not afraid of the genres.

re: Heart of Stone

Hi Jayne, I really enjoyed this one too.   Great review...I agree that the world-building felt very fresh, which is so welcome in urban fantasy right now.

HockeyJock--congrats on winning the contest!  I'm jealous you've read House of Cards already.

I haven't started this yet,

I haven't started this yet, but being CE's I just had to order it. I'm glad to see you've enjoyed it.

I'm going to read the Dark Enchantments series next... maybe... so many books cry out to me.

I just picked up Jina Bacarr's latest spice, the second to the Deanna Raybourn series, and another in the Maria V. Snyder series too.
