Hearts in the Highland by Ruth Axtell Morren, Steeple Hill, Love Inspired Historical

Maddie Norton is a paid companion and she lives in a time where spinsterhood is proclaimed at a much younger age then her advanced 29 years. She believes she has created a life of contentment by doing good works and living a life of faith. Then she meets her mistress’ nephew, Reid Gallagher. They are drawn to each other despite their internal conflicts.

Every once and a while I am drawn to a Love Inspired book despite my difficulties with proselytizing. I’m glad I was drawn to this book. Morren found a great way of working in the prayers and biblical references reflecting the inner conflict of the character. Not once did I end up bouncing out of the story because the ‘Christian’ piece seemed imposed on top of the story rather than coming out of the character. I was really impressed with her story telling. Thumbs up.

Sounds even better now

Sounds even better now reading your blog.  I have this one on my shelf but have not read it yet.  I am trying to read the 2 before it but I have a few books in front o fthose.  I like the historicals because somehow I really enjoy historical characters in inspirationals...maybe the time distance allows enough distance for them to reach me instead of feeling as if someone preaching at me.

There is some symbolism in

There is some symbolism in the use of Reid's interest in 'Egyptology' (compare and contrast Christianity vs Ra and other religions of Egypt). But as I said earlier none of it was 'in your face'. She handles everything with a light touch and subtle approach.

Oh
