Heaven and Earth by Nora Roberts

This is the second novel in the Three Sisters Island trilogy. Ripley is the sister of Zach, the hero of the first book, and also the deputy mayor. She's also one of the modern generation of the three sisters, much to her chagrin. Mac is an academic paranormal researcher who's come to the island for research.

Although I really liked this book and really liked all the characters (including the supporting characters), there's something about it that prevented me from completely loving it, though I can't quite figure out what it is. It's my least favourite of the trilogy, but it also has some of my favourite moments, especially Mac geeking out over the reactions of his machines that measure paranormal activity after he and Ripley make love.

Despite reservations, I still recommend it along with the rest of the series.
