So... i wish to enter the Desire Pitch contest and have a decent plot, a heroine i like and a Hero... who apparently doesn't do anything for me because my brain refuses to write. of course, if i can't get excited about my Hero, how the bleep can i expect a reader to?
now, i've already written a couple of other short stories and had no Hero writing issues - it only occurs when i sit down to work on the Desire ms. is this the Muse's way of telling me i'm not a Desire writer? or, is this the Muse's way of telling me to tweak my Hero because he is not the Alpha she wants?
curious to know if this has ever happened to anyone before and if so, what were some of the remedies to rescue said blah Hero?
*banging head against monitor...*

It happens. It happened to me with my current noc ms. I had to first take a break from the ms, then come back to it and dive deep into my hero. What are his likes and dislikes? What motivates him? Turns out - with me at least - he wasn't alpha male enough. Rather wimpy. People stepping all over him. I gave him a makeover. Made him edgy and harder. Once a changed a few personality traits he sprung to life and took charge of my story. I was off and running.
Word of caution, though. If you change your hero, make sure to go back and edit what you have already written to accomodate the new personality traits. You want the hero to be consistent! lol!
Hope that helps.

Been there, done that....
Writer2b, this has happened to me more than once. When it does, I usually realize that I'm getting burned out on that particular story, so I let it sit and stew while I work on something else. After a month or so, maybe less, I can go back to it and objectively examine the bones to see where I've possibly either (a.) gone totally wrong with the character or (b.) simply didn't add the right touch of spice. It really does work to walk away and come back, so to speak. Hope this helps!
Back again....
And now here I am adding this - I'm having issues with my h now. She's just being a pain the patootie!
So, I'm feeling a bout of chronic character pain, too. Just thought I'd let you know you're not alone!
