Will Laurence is a naval officer, and proud of it, but when his ship captures a dragon egg in battle, he doesn't hesitate to step up and do his duty. But being a member of the Aerial Corps is something quite different from the life he has known, as is being partner to a dragon -- no matter how intelligent and beloved. And worst of all, Laurence doesn't have too much time to get used to his new circumstances, as the war with France is heating up, and England needs all the dragons it can get!
A delicious alternate reality fantasy novel. There are some rather bland military aspects to the story that may thrill others, and only a hint of romance, but this is a wonderful alternative for those who have enjoyed Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, or enjoy dragon stories at all. Her Majesty's Dragon is the first in the series.

re: Her Majesty's Dragon
I had a friend recommend this but I haven't got around to reading it yet. Sounds great, though--your comparison to Anne McCaffrey interests me because the Pern books are some of my favourites of all time.
