Her Perfect Life, Signature Select 2006

Wow, I can't say enough good things about this book.  Don't you just love it when a book makes an impact?

This is a new to me author, one I want to read again.

The subject is Air Force Captain Katie Slater, POW for six years because everyone thought she had died when her plane crashed.  This is the story of her homecoming that was not what she expected.  What kept Katie alive during the time of her captivity was her children and home, she survived on the memory of her perfect life.

Lucky for Katie one of her captors intervened to give her a break from what she endured in the tribal prison where she was held.  Through this man, the enemy, she was seen at the market by a visiting French medical person that led to her being rescued.  Once home Katie had to learn to live all over again under circumstances she didn't expect.  The one constant in her life is her co-pilot, C.D. Quade, who was rescued after the crash.

After several days of doctors, tests and questions Katie is insisting on seeing her husband Sam and her children, Jake and Molly.  What Katie is unprepared for is the fact that Sam has moved on in his life.  Sam is now married to Blair, the children call her Mom which hurts Katie a lot.  She is a stranger to them as they were so young when she went away.  To Katie's surprise Blair is a big factor in helping the children learn to adjust to their mother being alive.  Katie forms an alliance with Blair to cope with the end of her relationship as Sam's wife and to help the children adjust to two mother's.  Sam being Sam wants everything to be perfect but there is a lot that has to be worked out a divorce, custody, a monetary settlement and allowing Katie to be a big part of the children's lives.

Vicki did an amazing job of writing this book with care and compassion.  There are parts that brought me to tears because so many people cared about Katie and her adjustment to all the changes she had to deal with.  C.D. Quade is a man that most women would like to have in their life.  He is Katie's rock throughout her recovery on the road to happiness and her new "perfect life".  Although the subject of being a POW is part of the story it is life after rescue that is the real story.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys an outstanding book.

Hi Donna - glad you finally got round to reading this

It was one of my top ten books in 2006 and would probably be in my top ten books of the decade

(and when you consider how many books I read in a decade, that's quite an achievement Smile)

I read a review for this book...

...early on last year and I've been looking for it ever since.  I'm guessing that the reason it's so hard to come by is that once someone reads it, it's one of those books that people hang onto.

Glad that you liked it as much as you did ~ your review makes me more determined to find this book!

Thanks Donna!

Worth tracking down...

This has been in my TBR pile for quite awhile just waiting for me!  Wish I had read it sooner.  I think it was still available here at eHarlequin when I got it.  Try used bookstores, there are some good ones online & Amazon is always a good site to track down new & used books if they are not available where you usually buy.  Have you tried here?  I haven't checked to see what of hers might be available.  Good luck finding a copy. Smile

Thanks for stopping by.  This is one of those books that will touch your heart and stay.

Take care, happy reading,
