As a part of his surrender agreement, Patrick MacEgan was forced to marry a Norman in order to save his people. He married Isobel de Godred and immediately whisked her off to Ireland where he planned to leave her on an island owned by his tribe. Isobel, however, had different ideas and refused to stay put, even going as far as swimming across the channel that separated the island from the mainland. As the MacEgans face the increasing threat from the English, the Normans and other tribes, can Isobel make him see that she would make him the perfect wife?
I'm still working my way through the "History of Scotland" which also gives some background to the early Irish tribes. Because of this, I could visualize the ringforts and beehinve huts of the Irish. Also, I have heard of the tribe who threatened the MacEgans. As for Patrick, I thought he was a foolish, hardheaded man for his efforts to keep Isobel imprisoned on that island and for not at least listening to her. As for Isobel, I loved her spunk and stubborness. This is a good read of the time following William the Conqueror. I give this book an A.

Loved this one too. Her website has some nice images. How wonderful to be reading a history parallel to it. Who wrote it? I would like to get a couple of general history books about Medieval Scotland and Ireland. I studied Medieval literature, not history, so I am thinking it might be good to read more history. I didc study some Medieval history but it was decades ago and it did not focus on Scotland or Ireland.

The Story of Scotland
The book is "The Story of Scotland" by Nigel Tranter, Neil Wilson Publishing, 1987. I bought the book at an used book store (of course) and it reads more like a epic novel than a history book.
