I enjoyed this book, first because it is a great story and secondly because the setting is in a familiar area of Pennsylvania that my family and I frequently visit. I really like the Love Inspired Suspense line of books. It combines 2 greats, mystery and faith. This is part of the Three Sisters Inn series. This is the story of a woman, Andrea Hampton, who drops everything to rush home to be with her grandmother and sister, Rachel, when Rachel is involved in an accident. Andrea hasn’t wanted to return to Lancaster County Pennsylvania in a long time. She associates it with her best and worst of times. Her mother took her and her 2 sisters away from the only stable home they had known, where they lived with her grandparents. She blamed the adults in her life for leaving her and her sisters with an unsteady parent, constantly moving to stay one step ahead of the bill collectors. Little wonder that Andrea craves order in her life. She’s worked very hard in her career to attain financial stability in her life, and it is just within her grasp when she receives word about her sister’s accident. So she takes a few weeks away from work, but brings her work with her to keep her place in line for a promotion.
Her sister, Rachel, and their grandmother decided to convert the old family home into a bed and breakfast, The Three Sisters Inn. They are only a few weeks away from their scheduled opening, when Rachel’s accident occurs. Andrea hasn’t been all for this idea, nevertheless she heads “home” to do what she can to help her grandmother and sister. In her rush to get to the hospital to see about her sister, Andrea has a small car accident of her own and ends up with her car in a ditch on the side of the road to avoid hitting a horse-n-buggy. Her ‘rescuer” turns out to be Cal Burke, a carpenter renting out her grandmother’s barn. Andrea is not comfortable with the fact that her grandmother is renting her barn and they hadn’t even told Andrea about it. She is uneasy around Cal and, at first, a little distrustful. She learns to trust Cal and get to know him a little better while she is at the house overseeing the finishing touches to the renovations and decorating that need to be done before it opens in a few weeks. Andrea experiences some strange happenings after she arrives at “the old homestead” and initially just chalks it up to bad luck and coincidence. As the story progresses, she comes to think someone doesn’t want them to open the B&B.
Read the story to see what transpires and how their Amish neighbors pitch-in to lend a hand. A wonderful story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
