His Second-Chance Family by RaeAnne Thayne (Silhouette Special Edition, 01/08)

Julia Blair has returned to Cannon Beach, the place she spent her summers as a girl. She is hoping that she can build a new life with her twins, Simon and Maddie. Little Maddie needs to rebuild her strength after a long illness and Julie can't think of a better place to do it. She is so looking forward to seeing Abigail again. Abigail gave Julia a safe place to escape from her parents fighting when she was young and she's never forgotten her. She is so happy when she sees a "for rent" sign at Brambleberry House. What kind of luck is that, that her old friend was looking for a tenant. But she is sad to learn that Abigail has passed away. The new owners, Sage and Anna, take one look at Julia and her little family and they "know" the apartment is meant for her. Will Garrett, the local carpenter and one Summer love of Julia is still in town. But there is something different about the young man she knew. There is a sadness about him. Then she finds out that his wife and daughter were killed and it makes sense why he looks at Maddie with sadness in his eyes. I loved this story. I thought it was excellent. Julia and her kids were great and little Maddie was just a sweetheart. I felt so sorry for Will and his determination not to let this family get close. He was such a nice guy who just loved his family and didn't want to get hurt again.
