For those who don't know my sons are competitive bowlers. One is still young enough to bowl in youth leagues and youth tournaments. The other recently moved to adult leagues and tournaments.
When he moved to adult leagues his first adult tournament was to bowl to hopefully win an entry to a Pro tournament, it was a regional tournament held not to far from us. He won that entry, but unfortunately didn't make the cut in the tournament to have a chance at money. He did however finish in the top half.
From there he bowled other tournaments where he did place in the money, but nothing Pro. He recently applied for and was accepted into the Pro Bowlers Assoc. So, this weekend we are headed to Houston to bowl in another regional tournament. It will be his first as a "pro".
Next week he's going with a friend to El Paso to compete in another pro tournament, and if he does well enough there you'll see him on TV a week from Sunday.
So this weekend when you're wishing good things for people, could you please include my son? I'm sure by the time all is said and done you'll be tired of hearing me talk about this.
On a side note...Mike will be taking our other son to compete in an All-Star bowling tournament on Saturday. He's just one of a five member team, but if the team does well they'll eventually have a chance to make it to the state All-Star Finals.

the lives of parents with children in competitive sports
I just wanted to let you know that I know where you are coming from. I will think of your family this weekend, as I am running my kids around to their competitive sports, one is swimming and one is gymnastics. My hubby and I spend a lot of weekend's not seeing each other, one running in one direction and one running in the other.....but it's all worth it when we see how much they enjoy it! Hope your kids do well this weekend.

Hi Sandi
I'll be thinking positive thoughts for Richard and Brian (and also for you and your DH)
The
boys are too young to be there yet, though given their competitive
streaks it won't be long 'til I'm chasing around all over
Luckily I don't mind sitting waiting and reading books
Don't understand the competitive streak - I don't have one (unless you apply it to my readaholism, I suppose
)
Hugs and have a good weekend

Thanks
Thank you to all who are wishing us well this weekend. Brian isn't as competitive as Richard, but that's more than ok by me. We had a smooth trip to Houston, and had no trouble finding where we needed to be.
Those of you who are also spending the weekend supporting your child's endeavors I hope you have a good time, and the kids do well!
Kim, I long ago gave up bowling because I couldn't beat either of the boys. It's really sad when your son is 6 and has a better average than you do!
