Well, this morning I decided to try something new with my
running–take the dog with me. Brilliant move I thought. A boost to my
ego I thought. I mean, I’ve been training now for a couple of months.
I’m in shape. And to be nice I decided to go easy on her–run for 30
minutes one way, turn around and head back. Anything longer than that
and I figured there’d be some dragging going on.
Well, there was some dragging going on alright.
Hey, when I imagined dragging…it was NOT like this.
“Hey Human, come on, get a move on! We’ve got cool places to go,
places to see, places to sniff. You’re holding me up! Let’s go, go, GO!”
“Oh you’re here! About time you caught up. Guess I’ll wake up from my nap now.”
I had 4 give you an idea of my expression on that thought.
He thought this was a riot…and insisted I take more. And since I
had made LOTS of faces at my dog while running…thought it appropriate.
Okay, now can I just say one thing? This was just soooo not fair! I
mapped out our route since then and it measures in at 5.44miles -
8.75KM. A bit under my original goal of 14KM before I decided to take
Kia with which I altered due to trying to be nice to her and my desire
not to have to carry her back and goodness knows I was asking a lot of
her for a first day. I mean, I certainly couldn’t run a mile my first
day much less almost 6. But as you read above…she had absolutely no
issues with the distance. :-) We could have gone the full 14KM.
I think when I come back to earth reincarnated I’m going to insist on being a dog.

oh my! ....
ROFL ... you have a great sense of humour, Cole! .... the pics of the dog are wonderful ... but your son's pics are priceless ... he looks like quite the little rascal :D ... he's inherited your sense of humour!
there is a wonderful halter you can get that will help train and control tlarger dogs from bounding off .... it's called a Halti ... I have a dear friend who has a very energetic gold lab ... Lucy's very curious and very strong ... this halti leader is fantastic ... it prevents Lucy from running off and even my friends seven year old grandson can walk Lucy without being pulled around .... the halter goes around the snout, I know it sort of looks like a muzzle but it is not ... it doesn't prevent the mouth from opening at all and it deosn't hurt the dog ... the principal is that if the dog moves forward at a pace that is quicker than yours the halter will pull the head to the side .. this distracts the dog and makes them pay attention .... my understanding is it's highly recommended by trainers ... most pet stores carry the "Halti"
you have the craziest blogs! .... thanks for the chuckle!

So in shape, huh? Funny!
Nothing like a good dose of reality, huh? I love to jog, too - I try anyway. But I think my 6 yr. old can outrun me! She's got twice my energy. Love the pics of your son. What a cutie-pie!

Our last dog
Hi Katherine -- Our last dog - Cody(a lab) - I would most definitely have needed you're contraption. AND I like the idea a ton better than that choker collar which we did finally get for him. It 'kind of' worked. He was really head strong. Wish I'd known about this then!
Kia (a golden retriever)- our dog now - is going to be no trouble training. She's still a puppy and full of excitement but truthfully the run went a lot better than I'd anticipated. I'm sure before long she'll be jogging beside me.
Glad you enjoy reading about my crazy life!

Thanks Amanda!
I know what you mean about the kids having all the 'energy'! I went to the park this weekend with two of mine and played this game where I'm the monster and have to chase them--basically tag except I'm ALWAYS it.
Talk about getting a dose of reality!
Thanks on my son--I think he's a cutie too.
