Laugh of the day

Having lunch with the boys, still trying to drum their Ps and Qs into them

B sees P eating gherkins and decides he wants some

Me: How many would you like, one, two or three?

B: Three

Me: Three what?

B: Three gherkins

Me Three gherkins what?

(We're speaking in French of course, and so adjectives come after the noun, not before)

P (trying to help out B): Three gherkins, edible!

Whereupon DH and I burst out laughing and point out we WERE actually aiming for PLEASE rather than EDIBLE

Some mothers do 'ave 'em!

Don't you just love what

Don't you just love what kids are going to say? Your conversation sounds a lot like the ones we have at snack time and lunch time at the preschool where I work. We use food times to really reinforce the use of manners--the positive reinforcer is built in. Wink

Hi Nancy - the not so laugh of the day was the beam

falling on my back when I bent over to put a shim under the ladder - DH was scared he'd managed to kill me

I'm going to have an interesting bruise between my shoulder blades, the beam is now securely fixed in place on the terrace

Poor DH is still shivery with what might have been, I think he scared P into obedience but it would take more than that to convince B to behave

Ouch--so sorry you

Ouch--so sorry you dh unintentionally 'beamed' you. It would strike fear into two of my three--but that third one...

Hope it doesn't leave you in too much pain.

Sadhbh,

Thanks for the laugh!  I'm glad you got that in before the "beaming" took place.  You might be too sore now to laugh about it.

I'm glad it didn't hit you in the head.  I'll bet your DH does shiver thinking about it.

Sadhbh, I love to hear the

Sadhbh, I love to hear the things that come out of the mouths of babes.  The other day when I came home from work I assumed that my youngest son had already had a snack, because he didn't bumrush me at the door with stomach growling and large cherub eyes.  It was a little while before I finally called him downstairs to ask him if he had already eaten (the boy eats like a linebacker).

"No, ma'am," he replies

"Are you hungry?" I asked.

"Yes, ma'am.  I'm starving."

"Son, why didn't you tell me you were hungry?"

"I've decided to stop begging for food," he replies matter of factly.

I'm not sure how long I laughed, but my sides ached the next day.  I told him that any time he gets hungry and can't fix something for himself to let me know and I'll gladly feed him.  :)  By the way, he is 10 and is perfectly capable of making himself a sandwich.  But, he is still the baby.

OUCH!  Just noticed the beam post.  That must have really hurt.  I hope it is nothing more than a bruise.  Take care of yourself.

and I can only feel it when someone presses it, so I'm presuming a bruise will come up soon and give me an interesting psychedelic back!

DH put arnica cream on it last night and will do so again later today - at least the mark isn't on the bony bit of my shoulder blades so I was able to sleep no problem

Hope life is treating y'all well

My DH's reaction to a near

My DH's reaction to a near miss is to yell at me.  "What are you doing under the beam? I could have killed you!" Luckily, he doesn't do that all the time.  Only when he has a big scare. I'm glad to see you're getting the roof on the terrace done after all?  How is your MIL?

to continue today after work and now it's two thirds done

MIL is still in Resuscitation after nearly five weeks, she's up and down like a yoyo, still very weak, as soon as I say to someone she's on the upturn she takes a dive again, and then perks up again.

We're hoping to have the long weekend without DH having to rush off again - I'll keep you posted
