Legends: Hunters and Heroes by Shiloh Walker (Samhain Publishing, 2006)

Hunters and Heroes by Shiloh WalkerCopied Blurb:

Journey into the world of the Hunters—men and women of myth, of legend.

The Huntress is a story of strength, bravery, and the incredible risks a woman will take for love. Escape into the legend of the Huntress and discover how it all began.

Malachi —A legend among his own kind. Even among the Hunters, Malachi is unique…and has been from the very beginning. Once a slave, Malachi has never lived free—until a mysterious woman turns him into something he doesn’t understand. He fights, seeing it as just a different kind of bondage. Then he realizes this is his destiny. Embracing it could lead to freedom…or it could lead him into an endless hell.

Hunter’s Pride —Kennedy has returned home to Pride Mountain. Unable to forget the mysterious creatures that saved her life after a brutal attack years before, she’s determined to solve the mystery…but she wasn’t counting on this mystery…

Duncan Pride remembers the night Kennedy was attacked but can’t tell her the truth of Pride Mountain. He didn’t plan on her courage, her strength, but he can’t let her get in the way—his Pride is counting on him.

My Review:

Oh, my, I loved all three stories!!  This was my first introduction to Shiloh Walkers books, and I am so glad I got the opportunity to read them.  I have another book here by her titled Beginnings.  I will be reading it ASAP.  I can't wait to learn more about the Hunters!!

I am going to review this one a little different than I normally do.  I discovered that this book was originally released as 3 short ebook novellas.  And I liked the covers and blurbs for the ebooks so much, so I am going to post them all and review them separately belowSmile

 The Huntress by Shiloh Walker

The Huntress by Shiloh WalkerCopied Blurb:

Her husband had been gone for weeks and she knew he would never return. Alone and scared Rachel knew she had to do something. Her small village was being terrorized by monsters. But what could one scared, lonely woman do?

Her life had taken a terrible turn and it was about to get worse.

Was the man at her door really her husband? Where had he been? And just what had he become…a story of strength, bravery and the incredible risks a woman will take for love.

Every hero has a past.

Every legend has a beginning.

My Review:

Loved, loved, loved this story!!  It was very cool that it took place in an historical setting.  The h was an incredible woman who did what she had to for love.  This may have been my fav of the three novellas.

Hunters Pride by Shiloh Walker

Hunter's Pride by Shiloh Walker

Copied Blurb:

A woman determined to find answers, a man sworn to keep secrets.

She was a child when it happened, an innocent brutalized by a man who was meant to protect her. When Kennedy ran, he came after her with every intention to kill—only to find himself face to face with creatures no rational human could explain.

Now, fifteen years later, Kennedy has returned to Pride Mountain, intent of finding out more about the creatures that saved her. Are they animals? Or something more…

Duncan Pride remembers Kennedy. But the woman he sees is nothing like that terrified child he saved. But he can’t let her learn the truth of Pride Mountain. He doesn’t count on her stubbornness, or her courage. He also doesn’t plan on falling in love with the willful, beautiful woman.

He can’t let that get in the way—his Pride is counting on him.

My Review:

Another fantastic story.  This one was contemporary and dealt with some more serious issues with a wonderful outcome.  I was amazed at the differences in characters and paranoramal twists Walker added to this story.

My Rating: 4.5

I really felt for Malachi in this story.  He was a tortured H, with a heart of gold.  I can't wait to see how his story continues.  This novella introduced us to his love briefly, and I want to know who she is!!

I just received a package of her books.  I decided to read this author for perhaps an unusual reason having nothing to do with the blurbs so it's nice to see good reviews of other books by her.

I absolutely loved Walkers stories.  Her characters are all so very different, and she was able to put quite a bit of emotion into them.  Fabulous author!!  I hope you enjoy her books!

Hey Tammy!

I'm so glad that you liked Shiloh Walker's stories.  I read these well after reading her Hunters stories and they really got to me.
She's got a different voice, but it's one that I love ~ and these three stories cover a lot of ground.

I like the idea that you had of using the individual covers for each title... and you're right, they're excellent images.  Yummy.....

I've never read this

I've never read this author, but when i saw a copy on a sale table at the UBS in Chilliwack, for 50 cents and it was like new...i couldn't resisit buying it. Since i bought it, I keep reading really good reviews for her Hunter series, and i feel so fortunate to have bought a copy, and book#1 to boot.

Hey Kalyko and Kathy D!

Hey Kalyko!

I agree, she has a much different voice....I am not sure how to describe it.  It is almost dreamy in quality perhaps??  And it is very character centered, which I love!

Thank you!  I am glad you liked seeing all the covers.  I wasn't sure if it would be confusing or not.  But that last cover....delicious!

I have a few books I need to read (The new Keri Arthur book, and the next Diamonds Down Under) and then I will be reading the other Hunters book I have.  The stories in that one are longer, so I am very curious to see how Walker writes a more in depth story, when I feel she did so well with the novellas.Smile

Hey Kathy D!

Woohoo!  Don't you just love getting deals on like new books!   I would not have been able to resist either.  We are hopeless, eh??Tongue out  Do you plan on reading it soon?  I know I have about a hundred books I plan to read soon, so don't worry, I won't hold you to it if you say yes, lol. Laughing

Talk to you both soon!

Hey Tammy, Where books are

Hey Tammy, Where books are concerned, definately hopeless.  I lucked out on some awesome books that trip, and had this challenge been set up like last year, i would've loved to post them.

I would love to get to the Hunter novel soon, and since i rarely ever plan my reads ahead...and even if i did plan, it still usually depends which one jumps out at me when i'm choosing. Hence the reason i rarely plan, lol, it's often to hard to stick to it. Embarassed Laughing

Hey Kathy D!

Hey Kathy!

I just bought13 books at Savers/Value Village yesterday.  One of them was an older Evelyn Vaughn, I was thrilled to get it, as I really enjoyed her Bombshells in The Madonna Key mini-series.

You should be able to post a list of your purchases as a blog post.  I would love to see all the books you were able to get.  Smile

Heehee, very understandable.  I do try to pick my reads in advance; however, my choices are like a revolving door.  Lots of books always moving to the top of the TBR., putting yesterdays certain next read lower.  And often I will have more than one book being read, cause I just couldn't decide.Tongue out

I am curious what you are reading now??

Take Care,

Tammy

Hi Tammy, 13 new to you

Hi Tammy, 13 new to you books is exciting. Which ones did you buy? I recently lucked out on a new to me Evelyn Vaughn book as well. An older one, but in excellent shape. I forget which one without going to check, and i'm feeling lazy.

I don't have all the books i bought together anymore, but i do have some waiting for me to finish putting them away. Maybe i'll try listing what i can find...it just seems  different to do it here. I doubt i'll get a chance till at least Tuesday though, with so much going on.

Lol at your revolving book door! And hey, i can relate, except mines kinda broken! Undecided Wink   I used to be a one book at a time girl, but these days, i rarely, if ever, have only one on the go. With so many books, i get less stressed if i can sample tastes of more than one.

I finished Kiss Of Midnight on the way to PG yesterday(still have to blog it) , and am now reading Halfway To The Grave, by Jeaniene Frost.  Not far into it yet, but what i have read so far is excellent. Just wish i had more time to sit and devote to it.

Hey Kathy D!

Hey Kathy D!

I bought, I think 9 Intigues, and 3 Harlequin Romances, and the Evelyn Vaughn one I got was Beneath the Surface, A Silhouette Shadows book from 1995.  I would list all he books I bought, but I am lazy tooTongue out....I took them downstairs.  But I know a few of the Intrigues were by Dana Marton and Debra Webb.  I read a book by Debra Webb last year, a Nascar, actually, and really enjoyed it.  So I was thrilled to find some of her books in near excellent condition.  The only book that wasn't in great condition was the Evelyn Vaughn one.  But as those are becoming increasing hard-to-find, I didn't mind so much.

Heehee, your revolving door is broken, eh??Laughing  It is weird how our tastes/moods change so much with our reading habits (or should I say non-habits??), Makes it easier to buy oh-so many more books, for our just in case moods, lol!  I try to explain that to dh, it doesn't work*sigh*Undecided

I enjoyed Kiss of Midnight last year; I think I gave it a 4 or 4.5, if I remember correctly.  And I have the next three books in the series still to read.  I also have Halfway to the Grave, still need to get to that too, lol!Smile  I look forward to your reviews on both books!!

Take Care and talk to you soon!
