The Little Lady Agency

Fans of Sophie Kinsella and Bridget Jones should check this one out. The Little Lady Agency is a delight. Heroine Melissa Romney-Jones has been laid off--again--and is at a loss for what to do with her party planning, socializing, entertainment skills. Accidentally getting hooked up with a sleazy escort service is a bad experience that results in a good idea--putting her skills to use to shape up hopeless men, focusing on wardrobe, grooming, platonic dates, fake girlfriend needs, gifts and more. Of course, Melissa can't do this as herself, so she creates bold, beautiful alter ego Honey to work the crowds, with often hilarious results. Of course things heat up when Honey is hired by the new boss at her old company, an upstart American who rubs all her old friends the wrong way, but inspires Honey/Melissa to yearn for him to rub her the right way...anyway, it's a wonderful identity farce romance, deepened by Melissa's own struggles with her zany family--Parliament horn-dog dad, wishy washy yet somehow likeable mom, eccentric and funny grandma, and sisters that would make anyone run for cover. The author has a strong voice that creates memorable, likeable characters and whisks you away into Melissa's world.

Hey Tashya - how chicklitty is this?

Because I don't really like chicklit at all, so I only kind of liked Bridget Jones and can't stand the Shopaholic novels.

Am trying to decide whether or not to try this one Foot in mouth

Sadhbh,

I didn't like the Shopaholic books, either. Well, okay, the one that I tried I couldn't get through. But I did like Can You Keep a Secret? and I glanced at Kinsella's most recent at the book store and will check it out of the library. So, maybe it's the immature heroine in the Shopaholic books? Or she's just too different from you and me to find her appealing and funny? Or she's too something . . . you read enough that you're reading about lots of people who aren't like you. Anyway, I'll see if this one is at my library and test drive it for us LOL and then let you know. Just don't hold your breath as it might be a year or two.

Hi Natashya!!!

I'm glad to say I've never read a book about an Irish readaholic married to a Frenchman - how boring would that be? Wink
