Local Newspaper piece

The Erie Times News ran a piece I did today in the paper.  If you get a minute, hope you check it out.  The fact that I'm rather fond of Erie, probably won't come as much of a surprise to all of you!  LOL

Holly's Erie Times piece.

Well, I posted a comment.

Well, I posted a comment.  But the site says I'm in Marcq en Baroeul.  I'm not.

Erie

There is just no place like home. I am a staunch supporter of Calgary but the town I was born in will always be home to me.  I come from the Rocky Mountains and my husband comes from the prairies so living in Calgary with access to both locales is perfect for us.

I must say a 15 minute trip to see a friend is really easy. You can't get any where around here in less than that.

I always wonder about people who don't explore their home town and the area around it. What do they do?

Calgary

Kaelee,

I love visiting other people's hometowns when they share what they love with me!  I'm with you...what do those other people do?? Calgary sounds lovely!

Road Trip

OK now Holly has put the idea of a road trip in my mind.  I just don't understand why negative people have to make themselves known.  A couple of the comments were totally uncalled for in my opinion.  If they didn't like living in Erie they should have posted  what they didn't like or nothing at all instead of  being so snarky .

Ellen

Ellen,

Well, if you roadtrip to Erie, we'll get together.  I know Susan lives ALL THE WAY on the other side of town, but I'm betting we can talk her into coming to lunch with us, too!

As for snarky people, I like to think they're people who are only happy when they can complain about something, so being snarky on the site made them happy!  And making people happy is always nice!  LOL

You have a point there Holly.   But it is a sad comentary on their life.

If I get to Erie I'll take you up on your invitation and you can show me all the places you like so much.

Fall

Ellen,

If you do come visit, shoot for the fall.  Erie's beautiful year round, but truly, the city shines in the autumn!

And yes, their lives must be rather narrow and sad.

But I do visit Marcq.  It's the town where my MIL lives and my DH works. But it's not where we live.  We live in Lille.

Very nice article,Holly!

Had to leave a comment also. Shame there always have to be negative people, just shows their lives are lacking something.

They have me in Unionville,Oh.,it is close but we live in Geneva.

Just thinking, maybe sometime I could make a jaunt over to Erie(has been awhile)and we could at least meet for a visit. Or if you are ever near our area too. Will send you my email, home address and phone in case.

Have a great weekend,Cheryl

Boo Hiss to the grumps!

I missed the blog on the newspaper site the first time through. Keep sticking up for your hometown and forget about the naysayers.  If you don't look at the good things around you, life becomes a real drag.

What a great article, Holly!

You really do love where you live, and it comes through in every word.

I'm not far from you (I'm in MD), and I too LOVE LOVE LOVE October.  Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Rose-Colored Glasses

Cheryl, Thanks for leaving the comment!   And it's interesting how the system is putting people in interesting locations!  LOL  And definitely shoot me an email if you're coming through town!!

Kaelee,  I do my best to find the sunny-side of things!  I'd rather live my life with rose-colored glasses than with dark lenses!

Jodie, You're not far at all.  We were through MD on the way to DC/VA for vacation.  And I'm with you...there's no more beautiful time of year!  I adore autumn.  We went to Peek 'N Peek's fall festival last year.  Oh, was it fun.  Lots of crafts and stuff, and you could take the ski lift up to the top of the mountain and back down...the view of the foliage was amazing!  We're going to try to go again this fall!

Fall in the northeast is

Fall in the northeast is the best time of year. Well, unless it is spring, no maybe summer...

I do love the fall and have a particular fondness for biking along the Mohawk river. Or hiking in the Adirondack or Green mountains. Crisp apples and crunchy leaves...

I loved your article in the Erie Times and I think it is great that you write about something you love. The love you have for your town shines through.

Nancy

Nancy

Nancy,

You're right, each season comes with its gifts, but fall wins, IMO!  And you mentioned apples.  Oh, that's one of the scents that comes to mind when I think of fall.  Going to Fuhrman's Cider Mill and the smell of apples is overwhelming.  The Cider Mill burned down last year, and it was such a loss to Erie.  Last I heard, they were rebuilding, and I'm crossing my fingers that they do.  I'd miss my cider each fall!
