In 2006 I read 114 printed books and in 2007 I read 128 print or eBooks. I anticipate reading fewer this year as I have many projects around the house that should get done. My audio book numbers for 2006 and 2007 were 42 and 25. I anticipate “reading” more audio books in 2008 than I did in 2007: while painting my various rooms or cleaning out the garage (which hasn’t been totally unpacked since our move 4+ years ago), I can listen to books. There are several projects that I cannot do while reading in any format, however, so I anticipate my numbers to be down noticeably.
Sadly, I re-counted my tbr when I was putting it away. (My tbr stays in the chest of drawers in my extra bedroom so I have to move it whenever we have company, which we did over the Xmas holidays.) I had counted it a while back but that was a “quick and dirty” and way off. I thought that if I didn’t buy or borrow any new books that at my 2007 reading rate, I’d take 12-14 months to get through it. No, at my 2007 reading rate it would take me approximately 2 years to get through my tbr. And that’s not counting my electronic tbr which rests in my dh’s PDA.
So, will I just read my tbr in 2008? No, you know that I can’t do that. But I am going to be stricter with the books that I read. If it doesn’t grab me by what? the end of the first chapter? the end of the third? then I need to put it in the giveaway pile. It will take some mental stretching and growth to actually do that . . .
I also need to spend less time in the blogosphere. Which means, I guess, that I hope y’all come visit me b/c I should NOT be coming to visit you at your blogs. I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay away, though. That will take a lot of resolve and willpower on my part. I do have to say that my first impressions of this new site are that it will help me with my resolve to spend less time b/c I THINK that I can see which entries I really REALLY REALLY want to spend time reading/commenting on. I hope. We’ll see.
I hate missing out on really good books but part of me says that the books will still be there in 2009 . . . and if y’all are still recommending them in 2009 then they really will be worth hunting down.

new year, new site, new name!
I'm just getting a chance to look/stumble around the new site. It takes me forever to adapt to these things, but I'll get the hang of it. Hopefully I can bookmark your blog at least.
I like your new name!

New Year
Good luck with your resolve! I'm hoping to not buy as much, but I'm sure I'll still buy, and I've given up ever getting to the end of my TBR.

good luck
I am planning to stick to subscriptions only in terms of my Harlequin reads with one exception which might end up as a subscription if I like the first books. ALso exceptions for general fiction and Medieval genres that are other publishers. Even that is overwhelming!

That's a small TBR
Penni, it wouldn't even do me three months, I think you should re-assess the situation
Of
course having the equivalent of half your TBR in boxes in your
livingroom for your French connection probably doesn't help you get
organised
Have I said Thank you for all your efforts
because I'm really VERY appreciative

Your books actually don't pose a problem
If no company is expected, they're in boxes in the extra bedroom (where I don't really notice them). If someone's coming or I'm getting them ready to ship, they're in my very messy office.

Actually if I were the company you expected
they wouldn't pose a problem then either
but without holidays it's not likely to happen anytime soon
