Lord of the Beasts

Every man has his secrets...

Inherited from an otherworldly father, enchanted blood flows through Donal Fleming’s veins. Yet though his empathic ability for all creatures gives purpose to his calling as a veterinarian, life among his mother’s mortal kind has left him wary, and he secretly hungers for the freedom to live unrestrained by civilized society. Until Cordelia…

Cordelia Hardcastle has always played by society’s rules, confined in a gilded cage of propriety and convention. Until Donal Fleming introduces her to a passion she’s never dreamed of, and a world she’s never imagined.

But Donal’s attraction to the remarkable Cordelia has unleashed his most primal instincts. The time has come for him to challenge his destiny and face the consequences of his impossible choice--between human love and the powers that to him, are life itself..

Wow what a lovely powerful read! This book read more like a fun fantasy than a paranormal. This dealt with creatures that were called Fane that were from some enchanted world that even though it looked beautiful those that lived there were cold heartless beings. But on earth the H who is half Fane, had a intriguing ability to read the thoughts of animals and to see in their world and the abuse they endure from humans. His world may have cold creatures but the world we live in also has cruel cold people as well. I really loved seeing the eyes from animals that included dogs, horses, black panthers and wolves. The h was also an intriguing character for her self-less personality with trying to always help others even when her help went overboard due to horrible childhood experiences. They also found themselves taking in a little girl who was not what or who she seemed. I found that both the H and the h were a perfect match for each other. This was really a captivating read and a very good example of how love can conquer even the most impossible. I have become a avid fan of Susan Krinard’s writing she really creates exciting worlds and even more exciting characters. I have another book by her that has nothing to do with this one but look forward to getting into it.

Hi Kathy!

One of the first things that drew me to this book was the cover, very lovely. And the book itself had me from page one. I very much recommend it.

fantasy versus paranormal

What do you see as the difference between fantasy and paranormal? I don't man a pedantic definition but some guidelines. The whole paranormal thing was fairly new to me being stuck in another time period for so long that I woke up and new genres existed, or new distinctions. This one is in my TBR...gee, I am really trying hard to not be diverted and get to my SUspense.

What 3 books did you get in Mira Suspense for Jan? I am not sure what I got and what was from an internet order.

MY BOOK REVIEWS

Hi Merri

To me the difference between paranormal and a fantasy. To me I always look at a paranormal as having vampires, were-creatures, witches, and ghosts in the book usually they have a scary feel to them or a nail biter feel if that makes sense lol. Fantasy to me has fairies, elves and other creatures that usually come from enchanted worlds or have a enchanted feel mixed into the story. This book had people that came from a enchanted world and mixed in with humans.

As far as the last suspense shipment I got A Marked Man by Stella Cameron, Below the Surface by Karen Harper, and Sleep Softly by Gwen Hunter.

Hi Shelley

I highly recommend this!! I have Chasing Midnight but haven't gotten to it yet. I am so tempted to move it up but then I have to push other books down and it is quite thick too. But I do really want to get to it soon!

Sequel

I don't know if you know this but this book is actually the sequel to Susan Krinard's The Forest Lord (Berkley - 2002). TFL is about Donal's parents. If you liked this one, I would definitely recommend you read the first one.

I really like the cover of Lord of the Beasts too. Love those eyes. Smile

Oh!

Thank you so much for the info Karen!  Looks like I'm going to have to do some book-hunting, eh?
Good to know before I start reading this one.   Laughing

paranormal and fantasy

Paranormal also means Psychic, telepathy, telekenesis and that sort of stuff.  I used to read Krinard faithfully.  I have grown lax and have to catch up again.

Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!

Hi BookWyvern

I saw on the back that this was a sequel to that. The first story was mentioned quite abit in this book that I almost know what happened. I will add "Forest Lord" to my list of old books I need to track down because I would love to get a hold of it.

Hi Jeannie

I forgot about those things as far as paranormals go. I know there are other things that I didn't mention as far as paranormals and fantasies go.

re: fantasy vs. paranormal

I agree with what everyone else said about defining paranormals...in addition, I've always seen paranormals as a subgenre of fantasy.  I'm wondering if I should revise that now, though, that paranormals are so popular...they do seem to be a genre unto themselves these days.

I didn't know this was a sequel. I haven't read it yet though, so I still have time to hunt the first up.

I originally discovered Susan's writing through her Luna series, and I have this, and another of hers in my tbr mountain.
