I recently learned that the RWA NOLA North Louisiana Stars conference will be going on in Shreveport, La on Feb 21 - Mar 1. The fee is $105 for non-RWA members, hotel and meal costs not included.
I'm seriously thinking about going because of the lineup of agents and acquiring editors that will be in attendance. The fee is low enough, I can actually afford it.
If there is anyone here from Louisiana or surrounding areas that will be attending, I'd love to hear from you! I'm a bit nervous about attending a conference. I've never been, so I don't know what to expect. I'd love to meet someone who plans to attend.

NOLA
Hi, Cora,
I had my heart set on attending that conference until I saw how long the drive would be and how much airfare would cost. I can't do it.
NOLA is offering some real opportunities at a very reasonable price. Margie Lawson's course is excellent, and Superromance senior editor Wanda Ottewell is descending from Toronto! I wanted to go just for those two.
The first conference I attended was a smaller one: Desert Dreams in 2004. There, I met Paula Eykelhof (the former Superromance senior editor) before I knew who she was. We had a good talk and she convinced me to target SR. I don't think we'd have had the chance to talk like that at a larger conference.
I knew no one when I went to Desert Dreams, but it was wonderful. Please go. And then tell me about it.

Sally, I wish you could go!
Oh, gosh, Sally! I wish you could come to the conference!
I'm not going to know a soul there, this will be my very first conference and I'm quite nervous about going alone. But I know if I don't go, I'll want to kick myself later. I have a paranormal partial I'd like to pitch, and Cori Deyoe and Lucienne Diver will be there.
I'm mailing off my registration forms and fee today, and at about 9 am I plan to call and make my reservations at the Clarion. I won't be able to get the conference rates, because they only held the block til Feb. 1st, but that's okay. And if the rooms are all booked, I'll make plans to stay with one of my "sisters", who live in Shreveport.
I'll be sure to write all about it when I'm back. (Still quite a bit of time before then, though. In the meantime, I'll continue writing and polishing my wip!) If for whatever reason you change your mind and decide to go, let me know! I'd love to see you there!

Good decision!
I'm so glad you decided to go, Cora! You know, nobody really cares if we go solo except us. Sometimes I think it's better to be alone at a conference because I'd be forced to interact with new people and not hang back in a bunch with my friends.
Someday I'll have to write a little article about my misadventures during my first conference---how I started eating the buffet lunch of a completely different group that was meeting at the hotel, how I innocently crashed the editors' and agents' party, and put my nose practically down Sharon Sala's bosom to read her nametag, how I grinned like a fool at Donald Maas before I was close enough to read his nametag, and how I finally crept away to rest in the hotel lobby, only to be commandeered by Diana Gabaldon to help her find where she was going to speak! I thought I'd disgraced myself forever, but nobody cared except me.
Have a blast and make a lot of silly mistakes and enjoy yourself!
