This will be a short review because my mother always told me, if you can't
say anything nice, don't say anything.
I was lucky enough to pick up a free copy of this book at last year's Book Expo America. I'll admit I picked it up because of the cover alone -- it's gorgeous, no?? But as it turns out, that's the only thing I liked about the book.
It's well-written enough, but the concept -- Gossip Girl meets Age of Innocence, a tale of rich girls gone bad in old New York -- was lost on me. I hated the Gossip Girl books because I can't stand reading about the petty troubles of spoiled rich brats. This novel borrows its themes and plot devices heavily from the GG books, and as a result The Luxe, while it has its merits (rich description, lush historical detail), is just not for me.

hmmm
I also got a free copy of this book, but haven't cracked the cover yet. I think it just moved a few spots down my tbr pile.
LOVE the cover.

Maybe it's just me...
Go ahead and crack that cover, KatieF. You never know, you might like it! It's not badly written -- just not my cup of tea. :)
