I bought this book because Derrick, the hero, is a C & W singer. I mean, who wouldn't fall for a guy who not only sings romantic songs to you, but writes them for you as well. But Kara Tillman is still deeply in love with her dead husband and goes on a guilt trip when she finds herself attracted to Derrick.
How long does grief last? How long do we bow to public pressure and not enjoy life because someone we love has died?
I enjoyed reading this book. Sure it was about Kara's loss, but it was more about her awakening. All she needed was the right man to pull her out of her misery and show her that she was still alive. She already knew that life was short. So why was she throwing the rest of it away?
Derrick's emotional baggage includes a teenage son confined to a wheelchair. I liked the way the book showed today's youth and their dependence not only on computers but on IM and chat lines. As well as the abuse of them. But the book also showed alternatives for wheelchair bound teens that would allow them to experience new freedoms.
This book was a fast-paced read.
