Manhunt

Book Forty-Eight:  “Manhunt,” Janet Evanovich, Harper Audio, 1988, 2005 Unabridged, 4.5 Hours,   Read by C. J. Critt

"Manhunt,” is an audio revival of the 1988 novel very well read  by C. J. Critt.  I find it hard to believe that reading this book could be as enjoyable as hearing C. J. Critt read it aloud.  It’s lively, funny, unpredictable, and always entertaining.  Janet Evanovich is a born entertainer who has created a family “cottage industry” with her output. I’ve liked everything I read by her.  I love her creativity.

"Manhunt,” is not related to the Stephanie Plum stories but the heroine still comes from New Jersey. She works in NYC in a high powered job making a lot of money and in a position far higher than her 29 years would suggest. Then, at the top of her game, she worries about her biological clock, quits her job, and moves to Alaska to find a husband. Thus the “Manhunt”.

The hero is a rich Alaskan charter pilot with a luxury log cabin home. The heroine buys, sight unseen, an unimproved cabin near his land and has nothing but problems from which the hero  extricates her.  The heroine is very intelligent and feisty so the dialog always sparkles.

Like many of her other books, “Manhunt,” is a fun, romantic comedy designed to continually entertain the reader  One thing I noticed about Evanovich books is that they end ideally and naturally. They are not padded to last a few for more  pages or abruptly ended to meet a page deadline. While this makes her novels have widely different page lengths, it also lets her end the story at the ideal moment.

Great job.
