A Marked Man by Stella Cameron

 Once Accused

When Max Savage opens his practice in a remote, seductively beautiful bayou town, he hopes it’s the start of a new life. He’s got his reputation as a skilled surgeon, his two brothers by his side and a fresh chance. But soon Max discovers he can’t escape a past riddled with accusations of murder…or the faces of two dead women. Especially since another woman is missing, and he was the last to see alive.

Always Suspected

Annie Duhon knows all about nightmares that shatter life’s dreams and the need to escape the past. But her fascination with Max grows, even when disturbing rumors start to surface and her darkest visions seem to play out in living color. Can she trust Max with her secrets and her deepest desires? Or is he the specter she sees when she sleeps--a killer stalking women with his cleansing fire? Is she about to become his next victim?

Once again this was kind of a slow start I don’t know if it’s the style or just me learning the characters. I believe it’s the latter because once I get past the slow part the book really takes off. This became very riveting and intriguing. Interesting characters a dark twisted story that made it hard to put down. I did kind of guess who was behind the murders due to some hints that I picked up on but it was still no less exciting. The stand off towards the end was full of tension and had me glued to the pages. I really liked the h and the how she overcame her horrid past. I look forward to the next tale in this series.

Steaminess: Yummy, but there was another scene that took place with other characters that would be Combustible.

Violence: Yes, murder scenes some disturbing.

Hey! This sounds like it

Hey! This sounds like it might be good. Though I do hate slow starts. I like the cover, too. And the color of the cover. lol Laughing

I'm currently reading her

I'm currently reading her book 'A Cold Day in Hell'  It started out slow for me too, but I'm really getting into it now.  With all the characters in the book, thankfully I don't feel lost and I actually have a basic understanding of each character.

re: A Marked Man

This one just came in the mail for me today in my Mira Suspense subscription.

I wasn't going to put it super high on the list because the cover looks a bit romance-y for my taste right now (I like to start with the thrillers!) but your review makes me more interested...I like darkness and twists!

I'm glad to read about the slow start so I know if I'm reading it and feel that way that I should give it a little longer.

Slow

I love the cover! I thought it was very pretty!

It must be her style of writting that makes the starts slow, A Cold Day was also a slow start for me but it picked up quickly. This one took alittle longer but once it kicked in I couldn't put it down.

Lady_Amalthea, while it has romance in the book there is too much going on for it to be the center of the story and makes it even more exciting due to the problems that have to be overcome.
