The Marriage Wager

Synopsis (from back cover):

No longer in the first blush of youth and without a marriage portion, Miss Constance Woodley could scarcely imagine why one of the leading lights of London society should take an interest in the likes of her. But under her benefactor's guiding hand she was transformed into a captivating creature who caught the eye of the handsome, charming and ever-so-slightly notorious Lord Dominic Leighton.

And before the shocked eyes of the entire Ton, the "nobody" and the rakish viscount showed that even in the heartless world of the marriage mart, when love was at stake, all bets were off….

Comments:

Another enjoyable read by Candace Camp.  She is quickly becoming an auto-buy.  This story is the first of The Matchmaker series.  Of course, being me, I read the second one first.  I do not recommend reading out of order, because while it doesn't hurt the central romance at all, the matchmaker (Francesca, Lady Haughston)'s story is being built up... it threw me off a little to go from obvious tension you can feel between two characters to the merest hints, despite knowing I was reading out of order.

The great gift is the passion for reading. It is cheap [Hah! It most certainly is not!], it consoles, it distracts, it excites. It gives knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is moral illumination. ~ Elizabeth Hardwick

Lovely review!

I've read one or two by Candace Camp, and won one of her book covers once, but I haven't read any recently.  I do love Regencies! Cool

I read her book A DANGEROUS MAN and enjoyed it.  I have several by her, had to get them after reading that one, but I am not sure if I have this one or not.  What are the other titles?

Merri - The 2nd book in The Matchmaker series is The Bridal Quest.  The other two in the series haven't been published yet (the next one is due out in Sept.).
