Married by Christmas by Carole Mortimer (HP 1995)

She's been dumped by a fiance (turned out to be gay and he embezzled from her father).  Her mother just died and she's unhappy about her father's new affair with a scarlett woman.  At a party, she ends up meeting (and going hom with!) the scarlett woman's brother.  Whoops.  He decides he wants her as his wife: she's loyal and has family values, and she's a strong character.  She fights it, but he's confident she'll be his wife within a month.  When a scandal threatens to break, she decides to marry him to avoid scandal.  But once the scandal is avoided, and the financial reasons behind their marriage over, will they still stay together?  Neither wants a divorce, but fears the other will.  A nice read, with great banter and wit.  I felt the heroine was almost a little too young (21) and weak (she fainted under mental stress.  I could understand physical stress, but come on!).  Other than that youth/weakness, the character was strong and stood up to her hero and his ex-wife and her father!

Rating: 3.5/5 stars, a good read.
