The Medusa Project by Cindy Dees. This is the first book in the Medusa series. I will read the others too. It was a great story and I love the idea of an all woman special forces team.
From the back cover:
Air Force Major Vanessa Blake had been handpicked to lead the first all-female Special Forces team, the Medusas. But there was one bit of classified information the military hadn't shared with her — their trainer, tough-as-nails Lieutenant Colonel Jake Scatalone, was under orders to prove women had no place in Special Forces. No matter how well Vanessa and her team performed, they would fail.
Then Scatalone disappeared on a crucial mission in hostile territory. And Vanessa made the military a deal it couldn't refuse: send in the Medusas. If they succeeded, they would become an official team. If they died, no one would ever have to know.…
My thoughts: The story was very compelling. My only complaint is that the romance took a back seat to the adventure story. Still, I enjoyed this book and Cindy Dees is a talented author. My rating 8/10

Tammy,
You will find the romance all over the map in the Silhouette Bombshells (SBS). They were first and foremost about strong women. Some of us diehard SBS fans liked that variety. Plus, SBSes were allowed to have the romance story develop over several books. Anyway, the diehard fans loved that aspect but a lot of readers did complain about the lack of romance in the line in general. (Not to say that there weren't plenty of books that were really high on the romance scale, just that we had lots of discussions about it in the old "Bombshelter".)
I don't remember any sex scenes in Cindy's first 3 MEDUSA books (but someone might come in and remind me of one that I forgot) but the one in her last SBS, wow, that one had a great line. In the one set on the cruise ship, the h and H are intimate but Cindy closed the door as it didn't move the adventure part of the plot along. Actually, in the last SBS Medusa, we don't get the details, just the build up.
If you click on Cindy's name in your tags field, you'll see other reviews for her stuff and you'll find, I think, that her SIMs/SRSes are much "hotter" and "romance" oriented.
I hope you like Cindy's other work, too. Have you read other stuff by her?

Hi Tammy - Penn got here before me, what a surprise
What Penn said! (about romance in the Bombshells)
What
I preferred about this book, even after having read all the Medusas to
date, was the team work between the girls and Jack's admission that
they already were a team where it mattered
I loved most all the scenes in the book so it's difficult to give you a "favourite" one, they're all favourites
Each
Medusa book focuses on a different Medusa but there's still the
team as a whole and the interaction that made this one so special
Have you read her Charlie Force books? (SIMs)

I loved these books
I loved these books and the kick butt ladies were awesome. There was even humour too. Women using their strengths to compete with men. The raising her shirt scene had me in stitches and a scene in a bar. Oh I've forgotten a few details must be time for a re-read and I could count it for the challenge as it's been a few years.
