In the Mood for Love

When I write my books for Special Edition, I get ideas from...well, everywhere. Something someone says, a line from a song, a premise done elsewhere that I twist and turn and make my own.  Occasionally something in a movie will sprout an idea.  Even if it doesn't it gets me in the mood for romance and that's always a good thing.<!--break-->

 romance

Who likes romantic movies? Do you see my hand waving in the air? Darn, right. I’m always looking for movies to rent that will let me feel happy and satisfied when the credits roll. Right now the ones I have on my to-be-rented listed are Nights at Rodanthe, Freedom Riders (it doesn’t sound like a romance to me…but someone recommended it) and Regarding Henry (another non-romance sounding title)

Web MD recently came out with a list of top romantic movies. Here they are:Breakfast at Tiffanys *
When Harry Met Sally
The Way We Were *
Harold and Maude
Love Story *
The Lake House
Roman Holiday
Sleepless in Seattle *
Doctor Zhivago *

I’ve seen the ones marked with an * I’d say they were all “romantic”, but not necessarily a romance (which to me comes with the requisite HEA (happily ever after). If I invest time in watching a movie and bonding with the characters, I want a happy ending. What about you?Let me know what you think of the movies I’m listed and, if you can recommend some good movies (remember…for me that means a happy ending) I’d appreciate it! And I know others reading these posts will thank you, too!

I would recommend...

TRUE ROMANCE with Christian Slater and Patrica Arquette.  It's romance through the eyes of, er, Quentin Tarantino.  Very violent.  Lots of sex and swearing.

In fact, I once recommended this movie to best bud, Susan Crosby.  Afterward, we agreed that maybe she would take all my recommendations with a grain of salt.

So this may not be everyone's idea of a romance.  Only mine.  Mwahaha.Tongue out

I love romance movies

most of those youlisted I've not seen or not seen all the way through. In fact, only two I've seen beginning to end. LOLI love love love The Lake House. It's a very different twist on a romance with two people communicationg through a "magical" mail box at the house they each lived in 4 years apart. I cried buckets at one part but SUCH a romantic movie. And it has eye candy like Keany Reaves in it and sandrta Bullock who though she often plays the same kinds of roles, I do love her as an actress.

And Sleepless in Seattle. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have great chemistry together and I loved the whole story.

One that I like and have watched several ties is Holiday with Kate Winslet and cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black. I questioned the whole Jack Black thing since I don't care for him (or maybe it's just the movies he chooses to do). But I love that movie and i watch it often.

Then there's is Love Actually which is another cute one. I like all the various love stories occurring simultaneously and the variety in the types of relationships they all have. I watch it a lot too.

Romantic movies

Cindy--I've seen your entire list of movies and enjoyed them all, for various reasons.  And Kelley's list has 4 of my favorite movies of all time.  Isn't it interesting that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have such great chemistry, yet they only see each other once around mid-point, and then at the Empire State building at the end?  Amazing.

I've yet to forgive Christine for recommending "True Romance" to me.  It scarred me for life!  Just kidding, of course, but it really wasn't my cuppa tea.  We've agreed on a lot of other movies, however.

I would add The American President and While You Were Sleeping to the list.

Romantic movies

Hi Cindy,

Love your movie pics!

Have you seen American Dreamer? A woman wins a romance writing contest... WONDERFUL sexy hero and on screen sensuality AND LOL moments!

The Letter - a Hallmark movie. Bit similar to the Lake House. Both really awesome.

Those really come to mind quickly to add to your list!

Vera Lisa who is in New England where there is finally some sun. I was growing webbed feet - Quack!

romantic movies

I agree with the happy ending. I've seen a few that were too sad and not very happy and ruined the movie for me. One movie that I really like is The Holiday. I really enjoyed that one.

I'm loving allt hese movies

I'm loving allt hese movies listed. I never saw the original Sabrina but I saw the remake with Harrison Ford. I too love Hope Floats and the Letter. And While You Were Sleeping is a cute one too. I'm going to want to watch all these now! LOL

Movies

I'll recommend a few of my favorites.

Love and Basketball.  (I love the last scene.)

Something's Gotta Give

Return to Me

Wuthering Heights (the original.  This was my father's favorite movie and everytime I watch it I think of him.  He always liked the end with two sets of footprints in the snow and so do I.)  The HEA came in the next life, but it still came.

TBW list is growing

I really appreciate all the movie recommendations!

Instead of a TBR (to-be-read) list, I'm compiling a TBW (to-be-watched) list of romantic movies...thanks to all of you!!

Cindy,

I think I've seen all the movies on your list except maybe Harold and Maude. (I may have even seen it. I'm vaguely remembering a movie with a very young man and a woman who was quite elderly.)

The Way We Were was a love story, but it was sadly (literally!) lacking in the HEA! I cried buckets over it.

Try these on for size. They have a nice HEA:

Made of Honor -- bonus, Patrick Dempsey isn't at all hard to look at
The Wedding Date
Enchanted -- yes, a partially animated film about a fairytale character, and, again, with Patrick Dempsey. It's a very sweet, but it's funny and has a happy ending, too! Even my DH and my 19 year old DD loved it!
