This was my first book by Patricia Briggs but definitely won't be the last! A great, take-charge, take-no-prisoners heroine who is a mechanic to boot. And definitely don't mess with the people she cares about.
Briggs develops a contemporary world where the fae have been outed by science or live in fear of it. At the same time, it is as gritty and real as a walk down a dark street in the bad part of town. However, she knows how to lighten things up with a touch of wicked humor and just the right amount of romantic intrigue.
If you liked the early Laurell Hamilton before the threesomes and prefer your paranormal politics a little dark and dangerous, this is definitely an author to try!

I love Patricia Briggs'...
...Mercy Thompson series! And after having recently read the third I love them even more.
Your comments about the down-to-earth realism really hits the spot and her characters are fascinating... certainly hope to see more of a lot of them in future books.

Deb - LOL! So true,
Deb - LOL! So true, things have been a leeetle crowded in Anita's bed in the last few books!
Kalyko, I have Briggs' second book in the Mercy series and am hurrying through my current read to get to it! I am glad to hear the rest of the series is just as strong.

Mercy Thompson Series
Not only pulls you into the world of the weres, paras and fae, but brings the baggage of todays world with it. Fear of being different, sacrifice for those you love, strength from numbers.. PB covers many different emotions and even handle some pretty ugly issues with great insight and sensitivity. Awesome series, can't wait for the next.
Enjoy the read....

Dee, you summed it up
Dee, you summed it up PERFECTLY! I am currently reading her Raven fantasy duo which is also great for many of the same reasons even though the timeframe seems more medieval. I am so glad I tried this author (one of the many great reading suggestions I received last year from the H blogs).
