Specialist Emergency Response Team - Book 2
4 Stars!
----- click "more" for how I did this! --->
We met Angus briefly in Emergency Baby; he's recently broken up with the love of his life because she was afraid of his high-risk job with SERT (Specialist Emergency Response Team). Angus McBride is a man you can count on when the going is tough; his specialized skills as a paramedic often place him in the thick of a rescue. Dr. Felicity Slade left the emergency room of Christchurch for the quiet community of Morriston. Her fear for Angus and the dangers he thrived on had been too much for her, and she needed the peace of Morriston to put Angus in the past. Danger often resides in the most peaceful of settings; a sniper besieges Morriston, a local resident gone crazy. Now more than ever Fliss needs Angus. And as the day turns to night, Angus and the SERT team arrive to disarm the sniper. As Fliss and Angus fight to save the lives of the injured, Angus is determined to show Fliss that they are meant to be together.
This book lives up to it's title; indeed, One Night to Wed. I really liked the way Ms. Roberts fills in the details of Fliss and Angus' prior relationship and lets us see that though they split up, they are still very much in love. Angus is a man who needs to protect those he loves and he wants more than anything to live his life with Fliss and create a family. The crisis in Morriston instills a fear in Gus for Fliss' safety and he realizes that this must be the fear Fliss had been living with every time he went out on rescue. And as the darkest hours of the night progress, Fliss sees that Angus is very good at his job and that he doesn't take unnecessary risks; the teams needs him, just as the people he rescues need him. This is another high paced romantic drama that grabbed my attention from the first page. Well done!

First, I'd like to mention that in the Title bar, I'd put both the Title and the Author's Name ------- without the author's name here, those that scroll the main Challenge page have to click on "more" to see the Tag for author and that's just an unnecessary "click"
my Title bar for this book would look like this --> One Night to Wed by Alison Roberts
to insert the book cover, follow the tips for book covers in either Tammy's blog Posting Pics or from my blog entry My Book Reviews -- How I make my book covers .... for the above I selected "right" for alignment and once I inserted the book cover image, I typed the text beside it .....
if you haven't read my other "My Book Review" blog entries, this will be new information to you .... if you have read my previous blog entries much of this will be repetition
If the book is a Harlequin / Silhouette imprint, I like to list which one, it's edition number, and the release date ...... that way if some one who is reading the book review is interested in purchasing it they have important information they may need, esp. if the book is out of print.
If the book is part of a multi-author or an author's mini-series, I like to put the title of the series and if known where this book fits in the order ... so with this book, it is Book # 2 ..... I'm one of those readers that like to read a series in the order and this information is so helpful ..... book order is only important for actually linked books, not for the themed series like the Greek Tycoons or Heart to Heart, however, I would mention if a book is part of a themed series
then I'd give a brief note of my impressions of the book .... it need not be detailed .... it could simply be, I loved this book! .... or This book didn't quite rock my boat ..... however if you can give us more, similar to what I've provided above, readers of your review I'm sure would be appreciative.
I rate my books ........ ratings are not required, especially as they are highly personal .... I use a rating simply because at the end of the year, our Lorie is going to ask us what our top reads of the year were and the ratings really help me compile that list ... I didn't rate in 2006, and it was sooo hard to make my year end top reads list ..... last year it was simple, anything with a 4.5 - 5 rating made the list hands down! ... to see the book review ratings that the Quiet Canadians are using Click Here .... if you'd like to rate, you are welcome to use them or create your own rating system ... as I mentioned ratings are personal opinions
all of the above, will appear in the "trimmed version" .... when you click on "preview" to see the what your post is going to look like, you are presented with two views .... the "trimmed version" which is the version that will display on the main Book Challenge page and on your Blog summary page ...... and the "full version" which is the version that will display when you click on "more" ... this provides the full blog entry / book review
.... now how do you get the text to split where you'd like .... well actually the techs here have given you the commands to do that in that little "blue" box above the "trimmed version" when you click on "preview" ...... but they don't tell you really how to make the command work
... okay, this is how you make it work ......... first, always remember a "trimmed version" contains aproximately Seven lines of text ..... so write up your review as you normally would ..... now comes the important part ..... click on the "disable rich-text" link just below the body/comment area .... this will change the text you've typed into the raw format, you will see alot of html tags around your text .... as you have not yet typed any text to appear beyond the "trimmed version" simply type <!--break--> after the last </p> that appears ...... then click on "enable rich text" ..... now when you click on "preview" everything that you've typed before that command of <!--break--> should appear in the "trimmed version" only
Next I would type a brief synopsis of the book .... if you don't want to do one in your own words many reviewers are providing the "Back cover Synopsis" .... if that is what you are doing, please let others know that it is from the Back Cover ....
Next I'd do a brief commentary of whether I liked the book and my over all feelings
In my reviews I provide an Excellency rating and a Steaminess rating ... this is a nice tool to use to help describe the book .... ratings are highly personal so you don't have to use one, as I mentioned above
then I like to keep track of my own Personal Stats .... for the Challenge we are asked that a minimum of 50% of our reading and reviewing be a Harlequin Enterprises imprint .... so I like to keep a tally of how many are Harlequin and how many are from other publishers ...... other reviewers also are keeping stats of how many books they've read from the TBR as opposed to new books coming in ..... this is an interesting stat to help keep you on the right path of reducing that usually ever growing TBR
if you want to do this for your reviews or blog entries, I suggest you practice for yourself (as I did) using the "blog entry" ..... you can "preview" as many times as you like, and if you decide you don't like what you've created you can simply click off the blog entry page to somewhere else ...... or if you've entered "submit" and it's created a blog entry that you do not want, simply click on "Edit" at the top of your entry and then scroll down below the "body" where you now have three options -- preview -- submit -- delete .... click on "delete" ... you will be asked to confirm that you want to delete, click on "yes" ..... and voila! your entry is gone! :)
I hope the "My Book Review" blog entries have been helpful ... you are welcome to follow any formating layouts that I use ... always though your review is "yours" and you can design them any way you wish .... these blog entries are only intended to give some tips that I have learnt while playing with my own reviews ... there really is no "right or wrong" way to do a review so have fun with them ...... if there are any unaswered questions on formating, ask away ... if I know the answer I will gladly share :)

Making a book review
Thank you very much. I think it looks so much better to have the book cover along with the review on the actual book challenge page in the trimmed version as well as the long one. So glad you're sharing your knowledge.
