Harlequin Medical Romance # 284 - January 2007
Specialist Emergency Response Team - Book 2
This is a fast paced medical rescue drama that will grip you from the first page! Angus and Fliss have loved each other for a long time; it was wonderful reading their reunion. This book lives up to it's title -- One Night to Wed! Well done!
4 Stars! --------- this is my review, no need to click further :)
However, if you'd like to know how I made this review, please click "MORE"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To help visualize my review process, I suggest you open another window/tab and click on create a "book review" to see the screen ..... you can easily open a new window /tab by pressing CONTROL N simultaneously
First, I'd like to mention that in the Title bar, I'd put both the Title and the Author's Name ------- without the author's name here, those that scroll the main Challenge page have to click on "more" to see the Tag for author and that's just an unnecessary "click"
my Title bar for this book would look like this --> One Night to Wed by Alison Roberts
if you haven't read my other "My Book Review" blog entries, this will be new information to you .... if you have read my previous blog entries much of this will be repetition
If the book is a Harlequin / Silhouette imprint, I like to list which one, it's edition number, and the release date ...... that way if some one who is reading the book review is interested in purchasing it they have important information they may need, esp. if the book is out of print.
If the book is part of a multi-author or an author's mini-series, I like to put the title of the series and if known where this book fits in the order ... so with this book, it is Book # 2 ..... I'm one of those readers that like to read a series in the order and this information is so helpful ..... book order is only important for actually linked books, not for the themed series like the Greek Tycoons or Heart to Heart, however, I would mention if a book is part of a themed series
then I'd give a brief note of my impressions of the book .... it need not be detailed .... it could simply be, I loved this book! .... or This book didn't quite rock my boat ..... however if you can give us more, similar to what I've provided above, readers of your review I'm sure would be appreciative.
I rate my books ........ ratings are not required, especially as they are highly personal .... I use a rating simply because at the end of the year, our Lorie is going to ask us what our top reads of the year were and the ratings really help me compile that list ... I didn't rate in 2006, and it was sooo hard to make my year end top reads list ..... last year it was simple, anything with a 4.5 - 5 rating made the list hands down! ... to see the book review ratings that the Quiet Canadians are using Click Here .... if you'd like to rate, you are welcome to use them or create your own rating system ... as I mentioned ratings are personal opinions
on a short review that only appears in the "trimmed version" of a book review .... I'd also let the reader know that there is nothing further to my review ....that this is my review, no need to click further! ... this is a courtesy for those reading the Book Challenge reviews to let them know they will be met with a "blank" page if they click on "more" .... no one likes to waste valuable "reading" time by clicking to a page that is empty
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How do you get the text to stay put in the "trimmed version" ? ...... first I'd like to explain what the "trimmed version" is ...... when you click on "preview" to see the what your post is going to look like, you are presented with two views .... the "trimmed version" which is the version that will display on the main Book Challenge page and on your Blog summary page ...... and the "full version" which is the version that will display when you click on "more" ... this provides the full blog entry / book review
.... now how do you get the text to split where you'd like .... well actually the techs here have given you the commands to do that in that little "blue" box above the "trimmed version" when you click on "preview" ...... but they don't tell you really how to make the command work
... okay, this is how you make it work ......... first, always remember a "trimmed version" contains aproximately Seven lines of text ..... so write up your review as you normally would ..... now comes the important part ..... click on the "disable rich-text" link just below the body/comment area .... this will change the text you've typed into the raw format, you will see alot of html tags around your text .... as there is no text to appear beyond the "trimmed version" simply type <!--break--> after the last </p> that appears ...... then click on "enable rich text" ..... now when you click on "preview" everything that you've typed before that command of <!--break--> should appear in the "trimmed version" only
if you want to do this for your reviews or blog entries, I suggest you practice for yourself (as I did) using the "blog entry" ..... you can "preview" as many times as you like, and if you decide you don't like what you've created you can simply click off the blog entry page to somewhere else ...... or if you've entered "submit" and it's created a blog entry that you do not want, simply click on "Edit" at the top of your entry and then scroll down below the "body" where you now have three options -- preview -- submit -- delete .... click on "delete" ... you will be asked to confirm that you want to delete, click on "yes" ..... and voila! your entry is gone! :)
I hope the "My Book Review" blog entries have been helpful ... you are welcome to follow any formating layouts that I use ... always though your review is "yours" and you can design them any way you wish .... these blog entries are only intended to give some tips that I have learnt while playing with my own reviews ... there really is no "right or wrong" way to do a review so have fun with them ...... if there are any unaswered questions on formating, ask away ... if I know the answer I will gladly share :)

thanks Katherine
I had a snow day here in Vancouver - yeah! So I spent some time learning more about the site. Your instructions have been great. Harlequin should be hiring you! Your instructions are very clear and precise for us non-techies. I went in to all my reviews that I could edit and fixed it so the pics all show and most of the blurb in the "trimmed" version.
I was going crazy before trying to figure why the pic showed sometimes and then not the next time. Or why the blurb did not show at all!
Thanks again - you're the best!

Glad I could help ..........
I know when I'm struggling to grasp something new and sometimes overwhelming, I like to have the directions "spelt" out for me ..... I'm glad my little tutorials have been helpful ...... this site can be alot of fun once the "mystery" of how it works is revealed
this new format offers so much more than the old one .... I'm really looking forward to seeing it's continued evolution!
