My numbers and Cady's Challenge

Those of you who were around last year and/or the year before will remember that we had our info on the first page every time you pulled up our blog. And we kept track of our own numbers on that page rather than in each blog entry. I guess that I could do it in each book review entry this year but I don't feel like it, nor do I feel like updating my bio each time. So I thought that periodically, I'd give an update on my numbers.

Those of you who were around last year know what we mean when we say, "Cady's Challenge" but for those of you who weren't, sometime around May, Cady challenged us to read more from our tbr. I think maybe 1/3, can't remember. I need to do a higher percent. I haven't defined it, just "high". (And for those of you who have wondered, v1978lp/Vikki's challenge had to do with buying fewer books than you read but I didn't do that one).

So, I've been keeping track in my little spreadsheet of my reads by H/S vs other and older and format (print, audio, ebook). Here's where I am so far.

Although the counter says I've read 17 books, I've read 16 grownup books and these numbers are based on those. The "extra" book is from my combining two children's books that my kids and I listened to in the car and I just can't bring myself to include those.

  • 16 books read
  • 11 H/S imprints, 5 other (69% H/S)
  • 10 from my "older" tbr (63% "older tbr")
  • 13 print, 2 audio, 1 electronic format (Mobipocket)

So, there you go. Not quite 1.5 months into the challenge . . .I think my percents are pretty good (both H/S and "older tbr").

How are y'all doing with your goals this year?

Keeping track

Well, I hate putting my stats on each entry, too. I always forget and have to go back into it to put them in. I might do it periodically like you did, but I don't keep track of my reads except for the blog and it might end up being more trouble than just putting them in each time. There are some things about the old site I miss and liked better. And I am trying to read mostly from my tbr pile. I haven't really bought many books this year, so far. So, that's good. But March brings a lot of new books in different series or by auto-buy authors, so next month I'll be buying some.

Could You Used Your Bio Area? There's lots of room.

Hi Penn:

I don’t know how to do it myself but I have seen bloggers who put their stats in the box where their bio is. (You have a lot of room below your bio for this.)  You would need to know how to upsize the type with html but, if you could, you could have your stats always on your home page in the same place.

I am about 50/50 on my old TBR pile. I feel a need to review a book as soon as it comes out as that is when readers are most likely to buy the book and look to for reviews before doing so.  I do very well on my eBook TBR pile because they are usually books I read immediately upon downloading.

Keep up the good work on your TBR pile.

            Thanks,

                 Vince

Penni - you are kicking

Penni - you are kicking b*tt.  The challenge originally was for 20% and you are way over those numbers.  Congrats on sticking to your guns.

my stats

These are my stats. I'm lousy at figuring out percentages. Since I write out my reviews in a document first I copy and paste the stats into the next documen and put a ? behind number I may have to change like harl/sil/other and TBR/new ratio. the bought/acquired gets changed as soon as books come in the door.

Personal total- 27 ~ harl/sil- 25 ~ other- 2

ratio of TBR/new- Total since Jan 1= 11/16 - Feb.= 6/3

bought/acquired- total= 39 ~ Feb.= 1 ~ read- total= 27 - Feb.= 9

RE: MY NUMBERS AND CADY'S CHALLENGE

LOL!  I haven't the foggiest idea (BLYME!!)!  But I do have a pile next to the PC that I need to review, and I need to do it quickly before the synopsis' of the books drain from my brain!

Hi Marty

I think I'd spell it blimey Wink

Post-its written straight after you finish the book and stuck inside before you place it in the pile work wonders Smile

When it comes to Cady's

When it comes to Cady's Challenge, I am a complete failure!  I can't even seem to get ahead when I modify it to just try to keep up with incoming books.

keeping up so far

so far I think I'm keeping up in print books, where I find myself lagging lately is ebooks. I've recently starting downloading more and more ebook and those something I forget to add to my bought/acquired total. But I think I'm keeping up

Oh, yeah, I didn't even count my ebooks

when I was counting my tbr at the beginning of the year and telling myself that I cannot buy any but my very best auto-buy authors.  So some of them got shifted to "auto-consider" status.  It's been hard but so far this year I've only bo't a few books -- 6 maybe?  Oh, wait, AGAIN I have forgotten to count my ebooks.  I'm not counting my audio books at all b/c they get listened to almost immediately.
