My Search for the Best...

For years I've been on the prowl for the world's best coffee. Many
years ago my preference was Yuban. Did you know they used to put malt
in their coffee? I've researched coffees and found that there are only
two types of coffee, Robusto and Arabica. Every other difference in
coffees depends on where, when and how it is grown, harvested, roasted
and packaged. To me there's no contest between Robusto and Arabica.
Arabica is wonderful. Robusto is ptui-ptui. The famous "Columbian
Coffee" that Juan Valdez claims is so great could be either one or a
mixture of the two.

In the past few years I've become exceptionally sensitive to caffeine,
so I'm now on the search for the best decaffeinated coffee. I'll admit
that I have not yet researched methods of removing caffeine. I know
there's Swiss water process but that's about the extent of my
knowledge. What I've done is bought decaf coffee and brewed it. I don't
go for beans. I buy ground coffee.

So currently, my favorite decafs are
Melita, Chock Full o'Nuts, and Medaglio D'Oro Espresso (which is not easy to find. I'm planning to
try Dunkin' Donuts. I'm hearing great things about it.

Anyone else out there on a mission to find the best of something? How's the quest going?  Oh, and if
you've got a personal favorite coffee I'd love to hear about it.

One commenter will receive an autographed book and be entered into my Black
Hills Gold contest for October. Check out my web page for more
information about the contest.

Have a happy Hallowe'en!

In search of tea

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do love to drink hot tea once the weather turns.  Usually, green tea.  Black is fine, too.  Love English Breakfast Tea.  Not much for herbals or too many flavorings.  I don't like it sweetened, even.  But, about 4 Christmases ago, my mom gave me a box of this "holiday blend" of white and green tea which I absolutely loved.  I know it had some almond in it, and maybe a touch of jasmine, or something like that.  Neither one of us have been able to find it since. Frown

I keep trying new blends when I see them, in hopes that'll be the one, but I just can't handle them if they're too fruity or too sweet.  (I let my Pepsi handle the sweet I need during the day Wink)  It would help if I'd kept the box or written down the name so I could look it up, but I was recovering from surgery back then and was lucky just to get up and get moving, much less remember stuff.Undecided

Good luck with your quest, Mallory!

12 weeks coffee-free

Alas, I've had to give up coffee. Frown

I do drink some teas, usually herbal infusions (not really "tea"), but occasionally a real tea. "Lady Grey" is wonderful. I'm not fond of green tea, even with the varied added flavours you now can buy.

My favourite hot beverage is a short, non-fat chai latté from Starbucks. It's VERY hard to pass that up!

Only in Canada, eh?

My favourite ground coffee to buy is from Superstore (grocery chain).  It's their Great Canadian Coffee and is supposed to be comparable to Tim Hortons.  Now Timmy's has made a move into a few US States but here in Canada it's an institution.  When I lived in Calgary, a Krispy Kreme franchise opened, one of the first in Canada.  Guess what.  It went out of business and became a Tim Hortons.

I make horrible coffee.  Thankfully we moved into a small town that has - you got it - a Tim Hortons.  Weeks like this week, when my dh is away, I can zip down and buy my morning coffee.  The dh is King Coffee Guy in our house.  For some reason, mine just doesn't cut it and I leave the brewing to him.

And by the way, Timmy's also has my favourite sandwich ever.  A turkey bacon club with the best sweet mustardy stuff merely  called - Tim Sauce.

Donna, who now suspects she needs to get out more, or buy shares in Tim Hortons

My search

My search is always for white hot chocolate. I can't drink the regular kind and every time I find a brand in the store they quit carrying it. AARGH!!!! Joe Muggs has a great white hot chocolate (I guess they still have it) that is made with Ghiradelli white chocolate syrup but frankly I'd have to take out a bank loan to buy it. It's kind of pricey. The one I'm using now is Hershey's Goodnight Hug's & Kisses white hot chocolate. It only has 4 envelopes in the box. Every time my sister runs onto it she buys me about 10 boxes. We haven't seen any lately. Hope I don't have to give it up.

Mmmm....

Julie and Kea, the teas sound wonderful. I love hot tea in the winter.

Donna, I'm going to have to try Tim Horton's if I can ever find it.

And OMG Linda, white hot chocolate? It sounds heavenly!

I may have to branch out and try some new things.

Kona Coffee

from Hawaii is a favorite of mine. Fortunately, my neice lives there and is willing to send some along with macadamia nuts. She is so special and I am thankful she is a part of my family.....besides I never would have fond this coffee without her!Cool

I never cared

for coffee.  I do like the occasional glass/cup of tea.  My favorite tea is a South African tea called Rooibos.  It's naturally decaffinated.  VERY mild.

I am a chocolate addict.  My faves are from Australia and S. Africa.  Sooooooo much better tasting than American chocolate!  That being said, I need to find places here in the States that sell either Aussie or SA chocolate.  Wish me luck!

best

I've never cared for coffee. Although Fazer at least used to have this coffee flavoured chocolate and I did like that. But instead of drinking coffee I like to drink tea. And eat chocolate, of course. And sometimes you find the best when you are not even looking, like Twinings coconut-vanilla-cacao flavoured tea. Yum. I also really like Twinings wild strawberry tea, but I haven't found that stuff in shops around here for ages =(.

I am not a real coffee fan as I like

all the add ins, creamer and sugar, so it is not "real" coffee as most people would say.  I do love hot tea and cocoa.  I enjoy English Breakfast Tea and a lot of the herbal teas with fruit flavors and it has to be sweet.  I think that is a southern thing and want my cold tea to be sweet also.  My favorite Starbucks drink is the winter one they have - carmel apple cider which is awesome.  It is getting about time for that to come out and also their peppermint hot chocolate.

Coffee, tea or...

French Vanilla Cappuchino?  I may be Canadian, but give me Folgers Coffee, not Tim's.  Their Fr Van Capp is really good but I can't have it very often.

Folgers decaf is also pretty good, too.  I don't usually make coffee unless I have company.

I'm mostly a tea granny, Tetley's...black.
