A Necessary Risk by Kathleen Long

The death of his younger brother during the clinical trial of an investigational medication, drives Zach Thomas to pursue research Jessica Parker to find out what went wrong. Together, they search for the answer to cover-ups and tampering with the trial participants' daily reports of side effects while taking the drugs.

The romance between the two starts as animosity since Zach is suspicous of Jessica and her initial disbelief at his accusations. As Jessica realizes that something is definitely wrong, she leans on Zach for the strength she needs to deal with the guilt she feels for having been part of the research team.

I picked this one up because of my past participation in medical research. This book held my interest through its characterization and moral/ethical dilemma about how far the medical community can push the limits in order to find the next miracle drug. A very good book.
