Meg Prescott left small town Colorado 10 years ago to pursue her dream of becoming a published author...and because her mother was a bitch who moved out of town before Meg's graduation to marry a new guy who didn't even know Meg existed (but she did pre-pay a month's rent so Meg wasn't evicted). Anyway, Meg moved to LA and pretty much didn't look back, except to stay in touch with her two best friends and for basically the entirety of her first, bestselling novel on a ranch family that seems pretty well based on Daniel Willett's family.
Daniel has always been in love with Meg since he was 16 and throughout the time that she dated his brother Alec in high school, but he knew he had to take over running the family ranch and he didn't want to hold her back so he never told her. He can't bear to stay away when he learns she's coming back for her 10 year high school class reunion though - so when she learns that her friend's have been claiming that she lives in a mansion, etc., etc., when she really scrapes by in a 1 bedroom apartment and couldn't get anyone to buy her 2 follow up books, Daniel is right there for Meg to turn to. They head out and can no longer resist acting on their latent feelings - she spends the night at his ranch. As the week goes by, Meg doesn't want to leave...but can the townspeople accept her? Does Daniel even want her to stay?
Great book - I'm really a sucker for these class reunion books. Although normally a wait of 10 years for their one true love really bothers me in romances, in this case I thought it worked well, considering how young they were when they first didn't get together. For a 17/18 year old to take off to the big city in search of ...something... is totally normal, just as it is completely reasonable that she now realizes she can write in said small town, and live HEA with her cowboy, having her cake and eating it too. I love that although this features a typical heroine-leaves-behind-the-big-city-for-the-wonders-of-the-small-town ending, Meg wasn't giving up any of her dreams, just making some additional new ones come true.
