Jess Baxter is a single mother, with an adorable daughter, horrible ex-husband, creepy neighbor, and now a hot new border. Oh also there is a serial killer that is targeting women that look like her. She can't hide her attraction for Rob Carpenter, especially after he moves into her rental apartment. Rob is trying to keep his feelings to himself. Rob Carpenter is not one of Suzanne Brockmann's traditional alpha males, but that is what makes him so interesting. He is a conflicted person with alot of nuances. Jess is in a realistic situation, because as women how well do we really know the men in our life?
