Nicholai Valentin is one of the Nobility. His race powerful, strong, and long-lived as a result of meteoric changes to their very beings. Yet they are dying. Law has forbidden them from using the Water of Change to turn humans into Nobles and no new True Noble births have occurred in many years. Now Nicholai must embark on a dangerous path.
Tamara Duncan is an antiques dealer, searching for treasures in an old house to sell in her store. One moment is all it takes to sense something powerful and dangerous lurks within. Now, she been changed and retains no memory of her previous life. She never could have guessed this would be the catalyst for a potentially dangerous destiny.
Nicholai and Tamara must work together to find the truth of what happened to her before evil can stake its claim and destroy the Nobility, and the new bond between Nicholai and Tamara. Only their Noble Blood can save them now.
Noble Blood, the premiere book the Nobility Series has a fascinating concept. I love the whole premise of this race of supernatural beings who were once human, but now are superhuman, due to the aftereffects of a fallen meteor centuries ago. Even more interesting is the fact that when the meteor crash-landed, it landed in water and all the water in the place it fell was "changed" and it is by touching this water that these beings were created. There is also an appealing story surrounding the fact these people often birth twins though one twin rarely survives much past childbirth. Think Yin and Yang, good and evil, dark and light...
The romance between Nicholai and Tamara progresses smoothly and gradually as they overcome their fears and differences. The bond that develops between them at the moment of her Change adds to the story, especially considering the additional little twist that Tamara also develops a bond to Nicholai’s twin at the same time. Conflict between the different Houses of the Nobility brings an extra dimension to the tale, even more so once long kept secrets and deceptions come to light.
I love the vision behind Noble Blood. However, the writing was awkward and hesitant. There were some very odd jumps between points of view and even entire settings/scenes with no kind of indication you are jumping heads. This was very distracting and I kept thinking I missed something when in actuality I did not. I just didn’t catch the shift.
Noble Blood is the first book by Linda J Parisi, who has the imagination and raw talent necessary to master the craft. She just needs the time to hone her skill and structure the plot development of her books a little better.
