November madness ... and Tammy (tlm455) you're the winner!

Congrats, Tammy (tlm455) ... email me at rthayne@xmission.com to let me know which title you'd like -- A COLD CREEK HOMECOMING or A COLD CREEK HOLIDAY. Thanks!

November is one of the most productive times of my entire year. Ideas fill my head like piles of leaves and I usually have energy and excitement that can be in short supply the rest of the year.

I'm not sure why I find the month so fruitful. Part of it is in anticipation for the holidays, I think, just this compelling urge I have to take care of as many details of my life as I can before the chaos of December swirls in with the winter snow.

I'm a bit like a squirrel in that respect -- I'm filling my freezer with food so that I don't have to add one more stress amid all the shopping and parties and present-wrapping. I find amazing comfort in knowing I can find something wholesome for my family's dinner just by walking out to the garage!

Maybe it's the squirrel in me that also has me tackling projects I've put off for years. We're trying to finish our basement after four years in our house, which has spawned a whole host of things on my to-do list. I'm off today to buy wood stripper and gloves to refinish the ancient upright piano we bought for $100 from my old city editor at the newspaper where I worked. The piano has a great honky-tonk sound, though he cabinet is in poor shape. Since our poor movers took it down to the basement and I doubt we'll find anybody willing to carry it back up, I figured it would be better refinish it before we the drywallers show up.

I'm also doing NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month, FYI) and have made tons of progress in only five days on a project I've been dragging my feet on, by giving myself the freedom to just write.

So what about you? Is November a productive month for you? Or do you find yourself sliding into the early stages of hibernation? I'd love to know :) And I'm giving away a copy of a book of your choice -- either my September book A COLD CREEK HOMECOMING or my upcoming December title, A COLD CREEK HOLIDAY.

November

is a very busy month for me.  Hubby's birthday is 11/24.  Daughter's birthday is 12/16, so I need to start planning her party.  Thanksgiving too and lots of Girl Scout (I am leader) and school activities (I am a Room mom)   December is also very busy too with shopping, wrapping, mailing and baking for Christmas and parties too!

Tammy, doesn't it seem like

Tammy, doesn't it seem like November is sort of the calm before the storm? I'm compelled to do everything I can ahead of time to smooth December as much as possible!

Busy, busy, busy

November is usually a busy time for our family. This year is no exception. My grandson has a bookfair this week at school plus a spagetti dinner tonight that we are going to. My dad has been in and out of the hospital and is in a nursing home right now getting ready to come home so we've been meeting ourselves going and coming to see him and help my mother out. My youngest daughter just found out she is pregnant with #3. My sister is scheduled to have a full knee replacement in a couple of weeks. I'm exhausted just thinking about all of it. Is it next year yet ?

November isn't a hectic

November isn't a hectic month for me until Thanksgiving hits. Then that's a different story, but for right now it's my time to relax and read. I'll do a little raking once the temps get back to the 50s and 60s. Nothing too stressful this month.

November

With all planning and preparation for Thanksgiving and beginning to shop for Christmas, November is  a busy time for me. I also get the urge to go through closets and purge during November when we switch to cold weather clothing.

Hibernating

Nothing big planned for November.  I'll be busier next month!

Hi ~

Well for me November is a very busy time especially at work because of working retail and people buying for thanksgiving then they start on christmas. I wish I could hiberate for the winter and just sit and read some books, but I can't to that plus I have my online classes I have to do too. I hav been taking English this time and it has been very hard and a challenging class. I have algebra next and don' t have a clue about it. Hopefully when the holiday break gets here for school I can spend more time reading my books, which I love to do and enjoy very much. Both your books sound really good.

Tough call ... half and half?

My self-employment is busier in November, gearing up for customers' holidays in December.  Most weekends are booked with get-togethers.  Spare time is filled with getting stuff done on my to-do list, if possible.  On the other hand, I consider the month of November a "breather" before December's crammed month!

Bottom line:  glad to be alive to appreciate (and complain sometimes) about it....

RaeAnne,

Cool to get a piano for a hundred bucks.  Once my mom did this crackle finish on our upright. It was...probably not a good idea.  But we all loved that piano.

Hmm. November. Yeah, I kind of feel brisk in November and get more work done--until Thanksgiving and then the Holidays eat my life.  But in a really good way!
