He's right in front of me. Sort of. Along with Juliet. My heart skips and aches every time I look at them. Oh, the inspiration.
During one of our long walks in London (we love to walk there), we passed Shakespeare's Globe Theater. The original theater burned down long ago, but it was reconstructed to look exactly like it.
We've toured the Globe before, although I've yet to catch a Shakespearean performance as we're always in London during the off season. Someday...
Although we were on or way to somewhere else, I did ask Steve if I could just pop in the gift shop. There I fell in love with some art that I'd never seen before. In particular, a stunning print of Romeo and Juliet. It was a 'have to have this' moment. I cringed when I saw the price. No doubt marked up for the Globe, plus the American dollar was at a low. I moved on in my browsing, and what do I see? Steve carrying the print to the cash register! (So sweet!)
I am now the proud owner of this beautiful print of an original watercolour and inkwash drawing by Elizabeth E. Schuch--signed by the artist! (Ignore the faded Immortal markings. That's from the website)
"See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand! O that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek!"
I found the website after I got home. The prices are much more reasonable via this route. The art is beautiful. I think I'm going to start a collection, 'Shakespeare' next. Go browse the beauty at Immortal Longings.

This misunderstanding really
This misunderstanding really annoys me -- the "wherefore art thou Romeo?" doesn't mean "Where are you, Romeo?", it's "Why must you be Romeo?" and thus, a Montague, therefore an enemy of her family and the worst possible guy she could fall for.
ROFL Werefan ..
Yes, but you'd think the line would be "Whyfore art thou, Romeo?" ..... so it's a popular misconception with the "wherefore"
Beth, I'm envying you! .... what a great trip! ... I'm still agog that you actually got so close to DC! .... just the pic with him and his dimples was enough to make me swoon!

Sorry...
if I mispoke, Werefan.
Thank you for the clarification. Mostly, I was just excited about sharing the beautiful art.

It's an easy slip to make,
It's an easy slip to make, I realize . . . my annoyance is a major downside of the piles of trivia books I was obsessed with as a kid. My English teacher didn't like it when I corrected her poetry analysis.
And it is a beautiful print, so the distraction is entirely understandable.
Ever thought about...
getting on Jeopardy, Werefan? Considering those piles of trivia books, I'd bet you kill!
I found your clarification of that famous Shakespeare phrase interesting. I honestly didn't know that, but it makes perfect sense. It makes me wonder how many other lines, I've totally misinterpreted. A lot, I bet. Oh, that Will. Gotta love him.
