Once a Wolf by Susan Krinard

This is the second in Susan Krinard's werewolf series involving the Forster family.  Lady Rowena has run away to America and is living in New York.  She ran away because her brother the Earl has a plan for continuing the werewolf "pure" blood lines.  It's a mating program that would involve Rowena marrying an American that she never met and breeding little werewolf children.  Rowena has never embraced the "beast" in herself and would prefer to live as a human in Society.  Interestingly she agrees to marry the very same man that her brother had arranged for her to marry.  Mistakenly thinking that Cole MacLean wanted to live as a human as she does she agrees to marry him.  But and old emeny of Coles, Tomas Alejandro Randall, kidnaps her and takes her away to New Mexico.  Tomas is also a werewolf from a long line of werewolves.  He now lives as a outlaw by the name of "El Lobo" and causes as much trouble for Cole and his brother as possible.  Cole's brother is hunting him and plans to bring him to justice while Cole's plans are much more sinister.  Rowena is caught in the middle and discovers things about both men that cause her to question her decisions.  At the same time Rowena is learning to live in a more simple way and becoming quite aware of the wolf inside.

Again, another great story by Susan Krinard.  There are many secondary characters that are quite important and I believe that she has written at least one connecting story about one from this book.  I'll look into this in more depth after I've finished reading the books I currently have on the terribly crowded TBR shelves.

"It is to the credit of human nature that, except where its selfishness is brought into play, it loves more readily than it hates."
